Terry urges carragher to play for england - Whatcha think?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Carra would be at best cover for Rio or Terry, like he was before. Would there be any assurance he wouldn't be left out in favour of Upson, Lescott or the next CB people are talking about? It isn't he doesn't want to play for his country, he was just fed up with their use of him - or not using him. It's England's loss, he has been a top English CB for years and johnny come lately was preferred to him every time.

He's better off out of it anyway, more chance of winning trophies with Liverpool and likely to prolong his career without the extra games.

Ciggy the legs aint going yet. He is still the best defender in the premiership maybe even europe and will be for the next few years. Ace he is better than Terry and Rio. Im not just saying all this because im a byist Liverpool fan. He is the most under-rated defender of all time. He has been consistent in defence for over 10 years and never got the recognition he deserves. He has sweat blood and guts for Liverpool and would have done for England if given the role he deserved. But if you read his book he regards club football as more important than International. Because he has quit England it means he will be able to give more seasons to Liverpool.

1: Any truth?

More than likely as JT regards his as the best defender in the world

2: If he got to play in his position would you support England more?

I already support England cos it means a lot to Stevie

3: Would it be detrimental to his Liverpool career?

Definatley and not just his Liverpool career but his family commitments too. He made the right choice to quit

4: Does anyone even care about England anymore?

International football means a lot to Stevie and im sure Carra obviously wants England to do well but the same goes for me as most Scousers. Club football comes first
The devil on the badge represents the equality of manchester united with satan and his many demoish minions downstairs. just like the many twisted devil worshipers accross the world it means you have to posess the same sick minded mentality to follow that pathetic excuse for a football team.

I wonder how his team mates feel when he clamours for a player who, to them probably, deserted England. Surely he should be rallying the troops not playing at being a selector. Seven wins in a row in qualifying, equals the most consecutive wins in World Cup and European Championship matches by England. I'd be using that kind of stat to motivate the players, show them they're doing better than teams before them.

Last time England won seven in a row started back during the 1966 World Cup, and continued into the following qualifying campaign for the Euros. But for a silly defeat in Belfast England would have won 11 in a row back in the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign and tournament itself

Its a shame that king's knee is dodgy i rate him as englands best defender , possibly on par with rio . I doubt carragher would want to play for england again , he's got 2 good seasons more left on him and he will want to concentrate on the league and winning the only trophy that has eluded him at club level

rio is over-rated, he missed games for the mancs last season and it made little difference to them, whoever slotted in next to Vidic was more than adequate in his stead. I reckon the mancs might struggle if they lose Vidic though, whenever I see a cross into the box I expect Vidic to head it clear. He is immense, perhaps gets caught out once or twice positionally, but then so does rio. I'd have Vidic in our side for his aerial presence alone

Honestly I think Ciggy's right on this remember Tuncay at Anfield, single worst defensive moment of the season even worse than Gary Neville get put through hell by Ashley Young.

I just think Carra is happier not trekking out to far flung places like Kazakhstan sitting on a bench, as next year has to be his last at his best. On balance I would say after next season that Carra, Terry, and Ferdinand will only be cover players for their clubs which is why I am concerned from an England point of view that Richards, Onouha, Jagielka and Lescott aren't really coming to the fore.
However I have high hopes for Mancienne, possibly should be a target for us this summer after Skrtel's less than impressive season as a whole still not scored for us, by the way and consider how many corners we get every game.

But just feel compelled to reiterate that I believe next season Carragher should still play a MAJOR role.
PS: Has anyone on here seen Martin Kelly? I hear good things but barely seen him myself and he got a renewal in april, so just wonderinghow good he actually is.

Terry wants Carra there so he (Terry) can cry off England games mid season.

Dream on Terry.

Scholes got bored with turning out for England and retired, I also think fergie offered him an incentive in the contract he signed very shortly after retiring......................

ENGLAND "EARLY" RETIREES (CURRENT AGE IN BRACKETS)

Paul Scholes (age 34) 1997-2004
Jamie Carragher (age 31) 1999-2007
Alan Shearer (age 38) 1992-2000
Steven Gerrard (age 29) 2000-2009?

So Scholes retired when he was around 29, Carra retired around the same age and so did Shearer - Gerrard is currently.........................29. All played for 7-9 years for England, all could easily have continued playing for their country. The only thing that makes me think Gerrard won't quit is his love for his country, but could you say Shearer didn't? He quit with a good chance of climbing up the all-time England scorers list, ironically Owen (also 29) is 10 goals better off and being shut out at the moment

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring! My Owzat account is locked by a seeming flaw in the board system. I changed my e-mail address, but that left me needing to be re-activated and therefore powerless to even post or notify a mod.

I dont give a badgers nadjer about England, Carra was right to drop it. When he was arguably the best CB in the prem he was still 3rd or even 4th for England. :censored: them all I say. I live in London and cannot stand the hype around England games, the media frenzy, the local fans being deluded and talking utter bollox. I'd rather get my Liverpool annual out.  :)

Carra is only looking for respect on Merseyside and he will get that by telling Fabio to take  long walk offf a short pier. If we get another season out of him at better level becasue of him refusing more caps then he should do it, and he ill do what is good for the club, not country.

Anyway, when is Gerrard going to hang up his boots?

This is simply, as a fan, the club versus country debate and it, in my opinion, hinges on where you were born. North, club, south, country... correct me if I am wrong.

bully for you, give yourself a pat on the back. Medal's in the post

And you probably are wrong, I believe plenty of southern club supporters also trot out the same club before country tripe equally readily even though the two co-exist and have done for years

Of course country is important, we all slag it off during the qualifiers but look how passionate we become once the competitions begin.

Yes its annoying but think of the glory........

Cheers for the medal. People don't often get an medal for speaing their mind.

You're not getting a medal for all that statstical dross you come out with everyday though matey.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Sorry couldn't resist after your pop, I enjoy your insights really.

You are right I suppose, it depends on what you want, I'd personally rather see the Premiership trophey at Anfield next year than England winning the world cup.. I wouldn't stop smiling for weeks, I would be so proud, England is just a passing high. Anyway it's no good gloating to the Spanish waiter about Fat Frank bagging off his backside, he dcouldn't give :censored: about what I think.. Now my scum fan boss.. that's another matter!  :D
