Didn't post that lot to take this p'iss out of anyone , or indeed praise Rafa.  Just meant it as a reminder of how we can all sometimes get it spectacularly wrong .

Something to keep in mind when we're ripping into each other over the latest transfer speculation.

Mind you Stoneys

Bent is probably a better option for us than torres

merits unreserved ridicule

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been named the Barclays Player of the Month for February.

Torres receives the accolade for the first time after a brilliant run of form, which saw him score four goals in three Premier League games.

The highlight of the Spaniard's month came when he struck an excellent hat-trick - the second of which was a stunning 20-yard effort - in the 3-2 triumph over Middlesbrough at Anfield.

It was Torres' first league hat-trick for Liverpool since his £26.5million transfer from Atletico Madrid last summer.

The 23-year-old becomes the first Liverpool player - other than Steven Gerrard - to collect the award since Danny Murphy picked up the accolade in November 2001.

My point?  Rafa is not getting anywhere near the credit he deserves for gambling on Torres this summer.  It was his first chance to spend big and he opted to go for a player that was no guarantee of success.  Had Torres flopped, it would have been another nail in Benitez's coffin with a fair few supporters.  As it turned out, he didn't flop but don't let anyone tell you that bringing him in was a no-brainer.  Rafa took a big risk with El Nino and it paid off so he should get some credit.  Fantastic signing. :nod

in contrast to signing Dirk who had a great record and look how he has turned out

:no i didnt cos i know the lad can play after watching him for 2 years before.

Plus i knew he had the build and pace for prem football and see many things in him (heading, first touch , 10 yard pace) tbh he had it all.

He had good attitude as well which i knew would only help him settle in faster so this is why i said he would break the 25+ goal margin first season in.

I do think if he stays with us some one who can really challange rushies goal marks well who knows but i think he can and i am gonna put a bet on soon.

I don't see Torres beating Rush's records and I don't see Torres getting into our greatest 11. It'll still be Dalglish and Rush for me up top, but Torres is certainly the best forward we've signed since Rush (second time).
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Fernando Towers won't triumph in the premiership.

And you can quote me on that.

Sabre

:D  In fairness to Sabre he wasn't alone.

People on here immediately dismiss Forlan as not being good enough for the club, yet they are keen on Torres..

Baffling.

the Specialist

Bent is probably a better option for us than torres

Stoney

People talking about signing Torres....bad idea. He's not that good in La Liga and i just dont think that he'll succeed in the Premier League. He's definitely going to a flop.

Red_Guy

Torres, i agree with sabre and anyone who says he is overrated, he is!

Metalhead

Once again, I hope we don't get Torres, good player but over rated and not the answer to our striking problem

Paul C

I have a bad feeling about torres, He would be to lightweight like many spanish players that come over here

Roberto Green

we need a true world class finisher " well Torres aint it not even close.

Rush Job

:D

Guess we all put our foot in our mouths sometimes.

:D

Quality

I new some of us had our doubts

Thanks for finding them

Some cracking quotes as well

love the Darren Bent quote

I am :censored: myself, as for once it's not me fecking up with silly comments. The funny side of the forum has just come to light, at last something for us to praise.

Well done Torres :bowdown

sabre, Torres scored 15 goals/year in a team that in his best year was 7º. You can find how many strikers there is with this numbers, and with his age. You won´t see more than 2 or 3. He was the best player in European Championship sub16 and the best scorer, and champion with Spain, he was the best player in Eurpean Championship sub 19, the best scorer, and champion with Spain. But in Atletico, he never played with players who had his level. Aguero the last year was so young. The difference of playing with Luccin and do it with Gerrad for example is so long. I am no surprised with Torres performances.

I hope you understand my poor english.

P.D. Will play Torres tomorrow?
