Swp linked with reds

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Sat May 28, 2005 1:59 am

From T.I.A.[This is Anfield]

Manchster City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is the subject of a £15m bid from Liverpool, according to a report in Saturday's Mirror newspaper.

Wright-Phillips has been linked with Liverpool in the past but City, despite being hugely in debt, have always stated they will be keeping the player at the club.

Would love to sign him but more than £10m for a player who hasn't established themselves yet at a top club or international level is ridiculous.

Personally I think Arsenal will sign him.

£ 15 millions?

You having a laugh?

Complete waste of money. We need 6-8 players according to Benitez. He will spend money wisely.

for $15 mjillion would be a fair price imo, we need britiash players and let's face it we'll have to cough up the dough to get em.  Besides we should be able to fetch 6-8 million from Baros, we'll see but then again even Anelka is being linked to us now....

SWP would light up our right midfield. He's a true wide man with pace and bags of skill. With Alonso distributing the ball, Gerrard in the centre, Riise on the left and Garcia behind a lone striker it would be a midfield to match anyone's.

However he'll suffer from being one of the leading young British stars in that he will be too expensive. He was injured for a considerable part of last season and we need someone who's going to be in the first team week in, week out.

I tend to agree with those above who say get him if they'll take £10 million - but I can't see that happen. Also as mentioned SWP has been touted for Arsenal for a long time now.

He's a class player, have these doubters seen his goals this season??? Awesome!
£15m is expensive but he's young, and we can afford it! He's a very exciting player to watch and we could do with more English in the first team.

But I reckon he would defo choose Arsenal before us :(

I think £10m is a fairer price than £15m, and we are probably looking at bringing in 6 players for our £30m, but thinking back to 2002 when we brought in Diao, Diouf and Cheyrou instead of Duff, we should definitely be looking to bring in 1 potentially world class player like SWP rather than 2 or 3 players of a lesser quality. Bringing in a key player is more important than bringing in 2 or 3 squad players.

I agree that SWP looks a fantastic player, but then again so did Kewell at Leeds.

I wouldn't go over 10 mil for him personally.  I'm sure Rafa could find someone better than SWP for 15 mil.  I he wasn't english he would only cost half of what man city will want.

we need a right winger and the likes of Joaquin will cost more than 15 million....once we have sold doofus (4-5 million) and Baros (8-9 million) we will have the money....+ the 30 million we already have!  :eyebrow

Don't talk stupid.

Wright-Phillips for £15m? You're having a laugh.

£6m-£8m would be more appropriate. But £15m??

Please. Joaquin would only cosst £20m.
