If Torres & Keane get it together from the off, i see a 2 goal victory.

Agree with you there BM - the only thing is - if we go 4-4-2
we haven't got the players to play wide left/right.

I dont mind Benayoun out wide, at least he can beat a player
and has some guille.

Kuyt on the other hand..... it's not his fault really, he is a striker
but the poor fella struggles wide right in a 4-4-2.

I knew the formation conundrum would crop up when we signed Keane.

Yeah totally, I mean, sign a £20m striker and play him on the wing.

Play the best box to box midfielder in world football upfront, play a :censored: striker out wide aswell....

Great idea. Thank :censored: you aren't the manager.

He's put Gerrard where he was in the 2nd half of last season.

I wouldn't put it past Rafa to play that at some stage this season.

What will that make you look like if he does?

A :censored:, I'd say.  :nod

I hope Gerrard can play. A worry will still be the back four.

I'm nervous.....Rafa should be too.

I really hope they have learned, not just from last night, but from the Lazio game and the summer friendlies.

Didnt we play 4-4-2 on wed night ? im hoping we play 4-2-3-1 with gerrard coming in to replace yossi and keane moving out left - gerrard in the centre would add a bit more steal there and help out plessis and xabi.

I'm not too sure it was GYBS. If it wasm it was an extremely loose 4-4-2.

I think if Liverpool move Keane out to the left, it'll be a disaster.

seriously ?
total waste of money imo if Rafa plays him there consistently this season. Im sure if Rafa wanted a left winger ( be it a creative one or whatever some on here are on about ; afterall a winger is a winger and Keane is not one) we could have spent the 20 mill on much better options.
If gerrard doesnt start , basically i think we'll be poor and would be very lucky to win it.
My starting lineup would be

                                   Reina
Arbeloa          Carragher            Agger        Dossena

Kuyt             Gerrard                Alonso         Benayoun

                        Keane            Torres

All the positional interchanging and all that can happen in the game if Rafa allows the players a little more freedom. especially the 4 attacking options we have (Benayoun, Kuyt, Keane and Torres) with Gerrard coming in late from behind. I think this looks like our best formation for this season as things stand. Mascherano and Babel coming in for Alonso and Benayoun when they are back from the olympics and we are good to go imo. Our main problem is that we dont have a player who can stand on the ball or even run and fullbacks and pick out a good pass from the wider positions. Benayoun does that sometimes but is far too inconsistent to be considered a regular in a title challenging starting 11. Babel needs to step up and if he does he can be a real threat down the left flank. Pennant has good ability and if he's given a run in the first team i think he can do a job for us.

I think your're bang on here. Liverpool need more options up front and a tighter simpler form all round. Torres is going to be booted around this season. It already started on Wednesday! and an alternatine target striker is needed.

If Rafa pays 20 mil for Keane and puts him on the wings, then he can bugger off for all I care. That'll be an absolutely disasterous decision.

I too want to see Babel in a regular start. I think he's a good lad, with an ability to get round a man (but maybe not two)...and he's got a got shot as well. He needs to up his game considerably though. Too many give away balls. Last year Andy Grey said that this season was going to be Babel's year...I hope he's correct.

Would definitely like to see Hyypia in the side for his aerial ability and Skrtel for his aggression. Carragher struggled in the centre last year and didn’t have a great game midweek so I would be more comfortable using him on the right and Arbeloa on left. Not many options in the middle so if Alonso is fit he should partner Plessi.

At this stage of the season we don’t want to take too many risks with new players and formations, build some momentum first and then make changes.

Carragher   Skrtel   Hyypia   Arbeloa

               Alonso    Plessi

       Kuyt       Gerrard       Benayoun

                     Torres

Any win will do to get us off to a good start, I expect nothing less against a team like Sunderland.

Can't wait.

I feared that Spanish TV would forget about the Liverpool game because of the olympics, but they're gonna broadcast it. Nice one, I'll comment here.

No Keane? I would be quite happy with your defence CHL  but I would prefer Keane to either Benny or Kuyt, while still prefering him up front with Torres.
