I still think his comments about his performance may have included a measure of implicit dissatisfaction with lining up on the left hand side of midfield.

Yeah, I thought that line about his "Worst performance in a Liverpool shirt" was a little hint at Rafa for playing him on the left.

But once again, Rafa shows that the team comes before any individual player.

The change worked and we are through.

I doint understand why you compare his playing performance with his ability to lead.

Now that you mention it, maybe it was the ESPN coverage but I didnt see Stevie getting around the players once to egg them on.
he is undoubtedly a great player but I dont rate him as a captain, just as Fat Frank should never be Chelsea´s captain as long as Terry is around.

The thing that p1sses me off with Rafa is that he never shows any emotion when we score, what the hell is wrong with him? I prefer a manager with some passion like Fergie, Wenger, Mourinhio etc. I think the players feed off that kind of thing. Imagine how much better we'd be if the lads could get really fired up by the manager, thank god we have Carra to do that job.

Yes, Wenger's grimacing and arm waving and general spasticness sure inspired his team on to glory didn't it? ??? So, we beat a top team 4-2 to advance to our 3rd Champions League semi-final in four seasons and you're worried because Rafa doesn't dance about like a prat when we score?  Do me a favour. :no  Christ, is there anything that Rafa-bashers won't have a dig at?  :sleep

Gerrard has had one of his better season's this year - despite shifting roles a fair bit. He's scored a lot of goals and won us a lot of games with not only his own skill, but also his leadership.

Great lad. One of the greatest Reds captains ever.

of course he should still be captain. he might not be a Souness type of captain (the best captain we've ever had IMO) but he's still the only player at that squad who can do everything to pick the team or crowd up. A crunching tackle or 50 yard pass or 40 yard rocket into the top corner or even a burst of pace to win a poxy throw in, Gerrard is the only one who can do that and deserves to be captain.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

What a post , rafa is known as cool and calm . Really ridiculous , we all know u don't like rafa but stop finding fault with him for everything , next u'll be finding fault with what sort of knickers he wears and why they don't match with the lfc logo or something

I remember reading Gerrards book, and he said something along the lines of he longs for the day Rafa says to him " Well done". He says he motivates him to play better so he can get a well done of Rafa. Things like that for me are why Rafa is one of the best around, always looking to get the best out of players, always finding ways which he can improve them. Top man.

for me also, he did show what a great captain is all about when he
took the pen against arsenal, that"s what a captain should do, put
yourself in the situation where it matters, that for me is what you
call pressure! he said that was one of his worst performances in
a liverpool shirt, but still did what was required when it mattered
for me that"s all that counts!

Agreed Bob.

In the big matches Liverpool nearly always play a good second half - surely a mark of a good motivational manager.
