So if we our led to believe Gerrard is actually the receiver of  regular pain injections before each game ,seriously    lets put things straight before this rumour builds up any real pace with the more susceptible amongst us ,firstly no club would administer injections  to the extent that some are suggesting if they knew they would be in serious danger of seriously hampering a players long term career ,it just would not be ethical regardless of the players insistence that they take such  drastic measures ,such actions would be highly negligent in the extreme and have serious repercussions

Secondly and for me the one that rings true ,do posters honestly think that Gerrard knowing even with the boost that these injections give to his troublesome groin ,he would actually take to the field knowing he would be unable to compete fully in the capacity he is used to ,sorry Gerrard is at the highest level a competitor of the highest degree ,anything less than knowing he could not play a game at 100% commitment would not suffice ....

Thirdly and from his own perspective do people truly believe he would knowingly put his own career in such peril by taking these injections in such  frightening  quantities ,not a chance Stevie would simply never put at risk his health regardless of aiding  Liverpool's now futile fight for European qualification,its just  pure conjecture and speculation unless that is a poster wants to provide the relevant proof of such revelations    because if they do proffer some shred of evidence identifying such questionable practices then I will endeavour to stifle my Laughter just long enough to issue an apology

Right, so it's much more reasonable to believe that a lad who's given everything to the club over the course of his career is suddenly no longer ar.sed and is now prepared to go through the motions until the World Cup comes around?  How is that even remotely as credible as the injury scenario?

Just as I don't think Rafa is a conniving schemer who's di.cking the club over to satisfy some personal megalomania (as some 'creative thinkers' have suggested), I equally don't think Steven Gerrard is some stroppy egotist who's deliberately half-a.ssing things to save himself for South Africa or to force out his manager. 

I guess indulging in conspiracy theories must be fun for some but I prefer the more logical explanations, even if they're a little less dramatic.

Tommy Smith was from a different era Saint ,do you honestly hand on heart believe this passage written to be similar with what occurs today regarding the well being of the player ,those days were the dark ages compared to today's modern medicine and practices ,and nowhere in that expose on the dangers of cortisone injections did it infer that Gerrard was receiving them before every game shear speculation mate ,I will wait to hear it from a more reputable publication if it proves to be true, (which I doubt ) not to mention Saint that the article is mainly in reference to the subsequent injection he supposedly was administered ahead of the England game

gerrard is done for lfc imo 30 mill would be good business , and let me just stop anyone who question my eye sight or loyalty i go away in europe and as many home games as poss since i have been 12. gerrard should be regarded as lfc greatest ever talent to rise though the ranks and if he had been in a decent squad should have a medal collection like giggs (i hate saying that)

Steven Gerrard was today definitely ruled out of England's World Cup squad. Gerrard visited a specialist yesterday and scans have since confirmed the need for surgery on his groin injury. He will undergo the surgery later this week.

Gerrard said on Liverpool's official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv: "The rehabilitation period for this sort of operation is six weeks, so obviously I'm going to miss the World Cup which is a massive disappointment.

"However, I need to get myself right as I wouldn't have been able to do myself or the team justice.

"In the short term it's a big blow, but I'm confident this surgery means I'll be involved in other major tournaments for the national side in the future.

"I want to send all the England lads my best wishes for the tournament and let them know I'll be cheering them on from home.

"My priority now has to be to get myself fit for the start of next season with Liverpool."
 

Been waiting to hear that from the Lad for a while Saint ,but its certainly took its own sweet  time coming especially as its took him so long to admit he hasn't been able to perform at his own exceptionally high standards ,but I am glad its getting rectified now the solution took a hell of a long time coming and that is something I would blame (ARE YOU SITTING DOWN COMFORTABLY ) the management with

Gerrard said on Liverpool's official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv: "The rehabilitation period for this sort of operation is six weeks, so obviously I'm going to miss the World Cup which is a massive disappointment.

Conspiracy theories  Yes I have over indulged on the Grassy Knoll theory and have exhausted all other avenues with regards to the who killed Marilyn ,so I thought I would now advocate some much needed time wallowing in idle speculation ,biding my time until I was reprimanded by a Mod from overseas  ,because in general I am that shallow well spotted given the distance of your geographical proximity to Anfield

However much of that is accounted for by his groin problems, I'm convinced some of it is caused by the state the team is in and the fact that we're out of every competition we started in. For the most ambitious players and especially him, going from the highs of last season to the lows of this one, must have some effect. He's allowed a bit of leeway from me on that one.

For what he's done for us over the years, and for his general level of performance (set up our two best chances to equalise yesterday for instance) and ability, the criticism he receives is disproportionate e.g. imploring Rafa to drop him. Simply, too much focus on him and not enough on the real causes of our decline.

Whatever is going on at boardroom level has absolutely FECKALL, a resounding Zilch, to do with the performance on the pitch. Gerrard is there to propel a small round ball into the opposition net as frequently as possible, and preferably more often than the opposition does it in reverse.
If he can't focus on THAT, then he needs help in sorting out his priorities...

Oh, and before you say he can't carry the team on his own.....he IS the captain after all....it is incumbent on him to kick his teammates up the hole on a regular basis if they are not cutting it....

From reading articles its clear that Gerrard HAS been receiving injections before England games AND before training with Liverpool. Whether he has received too many, or not enough, or even any at all before games, the point is its obvious that he is playing with an injury and as such its the managers decision whether he is performing to the best of his PRESENT capabilities. If he is not , he should have been dropped ..... even risking the backlash of criticism on an internet forum. So I stand by my view that either the manager is satisfied that Gerrard is doing the best he can under the circumstances, or the manager is not doing his job.

Gerrard’s fitness will be closely monitored over the weekend and he too could be patched up and sent out to face Birmingham.

STEVEN GERRARD will have another painkilling injection so he can lead from the front to salvage Liverpool's season.

The Kop skipper is ready to make a swift return to action against Wolves on Tuesday, having recovered from a hamstring strain.


Gerrard was back in training yesterday, giving manager Rafa Benitez another lift in the race for fourth place.


If he does not feature at Molineux, the 29-year-old is certain to return against Bolton at Anfield next weekend.


But Gerrard is still having to manage a groin problem that caused him problems earlier in the season.


He avoided surgery in November thanks to a cortisone jab, but he expects to need the same procedure once more before the season's end.


Although it proved a complete success, Gerrard has been warned he may have to repeat the process in March to ensure he suffers no pain for the climax of the Premier League campaign or the World Cup in the summer.


Gerrard last week endorsed a statement committing his future to Liverpool as the club attempt to beat Tottenham and Manchester City into the Champions League places.


And the manner in which he is battling through injury further demonstrates his loyalty.
