Steve finnan

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I agree about Finnan, he has been sublime, he's much like Carragher in regard's to playing exceptionally well and keeping out of the limelight. He is an important part of our time and it's about time we got a good player to cover for him, he need's to rest the odd game.

he's a cracking player, turns up does his job effectively and thats that. doesnt try anything flash, very rarely caught out, great getting foward and his overlapping on the right and crosses are cracking for a right back IMO, definately one of, if not the, best RB in the prem.

The thing thats makes Steve Finnan stand out for me, is his ability with both of his feet, he can play football with both feet very very well. We he gets down the right wing he can cut in or go round and cross the ball, very hard to defend against. Actually a very good interview with Finnan in LFC Offical Magazine Issue No. 179., where they discuss his unsung status. Why don't we have a song for Finnan.

For some he has gone un-noticed, others just have doubted him. But to the clever reds - we've seen his potential and have been shouting it for ages. People tend to judge so many players these days on flair. Steve Finnan is nothing like Ashley Cole yet only now he is receiving credit, when he should of been praised last season as well. Kromkamp is definitely going to be warming the bench for a while.

Feeney wrote:Finnan's attitude has really shone through as let us not forget, he was very nearly out of the club at the beginning of last season (he was playing virtually right wing for the first game of the season at Spurs and was written off as a future Liverpool player by the pundits).

The praise he's getting is fully justified and I would certainly put him on a par at the mo with handsome Neville for the best RB in the Prem at this present time. He's one of the examples of overall improvement throughout the squad and the signing of Kromkamp will only serve to spur him on to becoming even better.

Benitez praise for his 'unsung hero' Finnan Jan 16 2006

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

RAFA BENITEZ today hailed the efforts of Anfield's 'unsung hero' Steve Finnan, following another exceptional performance by the right-back during Saturday's 1-0 win.

While Harry Kewell understandably grabbed most headlines for his stunning winner, Finnan's impressive form continued.

"Finnan is a player who will always play at a consistent level," said the Liverpool boss.

"He will be seven, eight, nine or even ten out of ten every week. This is really important for the team. Some players find a good level for individual games, but don't do the same every week. Finnan does it for a whole season.

Rafa's stealing my quotes now!!!

Finnan was my man of the match against Spurs, despite Kewell stealing the limelight with that magnificent volleyed goal. Finnan has been going on playing so consistently in the past weeks almost unnoticed.

It's great for him that Rafa has hailed him as an unsung hero.

How different would that right hand side be if Finnan had left last season and Rafa had persevered with Josemi.  :wwww

It'll be good to get a look at Kromkamp at some point, but he's going to have to be some player to dislodge him.

Finnan has been class for years.  It's a mystery why Steve Carr was getting a game ahead of him for Ireland in the world cup qualifiers.

doesnt hurt matters when youve got stevie g ahead of u either. not taking anything away from finann (who has been one of our best players) but hes got the best player ahead of him to help him out if needed. i think it helped add confidence at first and now finan is showing just how good he is
