hummmm tevez or eto'o, daddy or chips?

Chelsea forward Hernan Crespo, who is on loan at Inter Milan, has predicted that whoever buys West Ham striker Carlos Tevez will win the Premiership next season. (Daily Mirror)

Well this is slightly of topic....  The team i am putting up would have been good enuff to win last week's champions league. In fact i think we would have deffo won the champions league for sure.... And it wouldn't have been all doom and gloom in this forum (remember the summer of 2005..... I mean this forum took minutes to load becos of the traffic we had).

                Reina
  Finnan  Carra   Agger   Arbeloa
  Pennant     Mascherano   Riise
              Crouch
                          Bellamy

Lets face it...Milan were there for the taking. They were poor. Everyone knew Dida was weak when dealing with crosses. Everyone knew Milan had an aging defence which can be exploited by bellamy's pace... I know this is hindsight and all...but if rafa had picked this squad, we would still be drunk now.....

As for next season, the core of our starting 11 should be

GK -  Reina

RB - Finnan (The best RB in the league last season. Although he would be 32, still think he can offer a season or 2 at the top flight.)

CB - Carra

CB - Agger

LB - We need a new left back. Riise has been our weakest link in defence. Get this position sorted, and we would have the best defence record in europe.

CM - Mascherano.... I am with the gerrard in central midfield brigade. If Gerrard is to play to his potential, he needs mascherano tidying up behind him.

AM - Gerrard....Nuff Said

RW - Alves/Pennant -

LW - Kewell/Garcia/Riise

F - Crouch/Kujt

S - Bellamy/New 25 goals getting world class striker.....

I'm sure it would have been a lot harder to beat Milan with 10 men?!

Is our defence really the problem?

I don't think Riise is the problem in any way.

name 1 big club i the world that plays 3-5-2...
in paper...it does look good but not a formation any big club uses on a regular basis any more...
too predictable and you get outnumbered on the flanks easily... not a formation i can see us using week in week out...
4-5-1... we need 2 brilliant wingers and a striker who can net the goals... we are 2 wingers and a striker short of that...

i think we'll be playing 4-4-2 again with the 4-5-1 as a backup.. so... yea

i agree playing 3 at the back doesnt win trophies, its a flawed formation, english spanish italy, no top teams plays 3 at the back there, thats evident.

It's easy to say this or that team would have won in Athens with hindsight.

Both of the two formation/player lists above are just crazy IMO.

Starting eleven to win the Prem? Well, the first thing is you need a starting eleven, a first team. Not that you play it each and every week, but you need a first choice right back, centre halves etc. Unless you have that, you can fill in any names you like, you won't win the league.

seriously ?!

that was the only seville game you watched wasnt it ?!

he is by far their best player...
he is by far the most consistent performer in the spanish league
he is this years spanish leaue player of the year imo...
uefa cup player of the year....
best right back in the world...

would be our 2nd best player if he signed i have no doubt about that... he is quality and is one of the best right backs iv seen in ages !

get him and play him in the rightback slot and im 100% positive he'd be a fans favourite in no time...
play him in the wing and im not so sure he'll have that significant an impact...

sabre should know a thing or two about him but....fom what iv seen of him...when he is played in the wing he tends to stay forward and play as a 2nd or 3rd striker -to some extent- neglecting his defensive duties...

bt a brilliant player overalll... would be absolutely thrilled if he signed !

From the games I've seen this season, don't agree that Alves is the new Biscan. Crazy talk that is. He would be a fantastic addition to the squad. Out of all the Spanish games i have seen he would be in the top 3 players this season.

Where would i play him. Right Midfield would be my first choice. Is strong on the ball, quick feet, excellent crosser of ball, plays with pace. Finnan is too good to leave out of that squad. Not convinced about Pennant yet. Very difficult for him to play some games and not others and develop some sort of form.

Alves and another striker and i would be happy. Quality striker though. Sell some of the fringe players.
