I had to go a few posts back to find one good post and worth replying to.

Ah come on...I admire your optimisim and loyalty, but Liverpool didn't threaten the goal once in the entire game (even with their £42+ million worth of strikers) and they should have lost that match by 2 goals. They were played off the pitch by a side that they should have beaten to all intents and purposes.
That's a performance worth criticising.
I totally agree. Torres was ok, but I was disappointed bigtime in Keane. The supply from the full backs was long aimless balls, the midfield wasn't much better and neither Kuyt nor Benayoun really got into the game. Possession was gifted away most of the time, there didn't seem to be a plan A once it became clear the Belgians were organised and not a pushover.

Few of the team will come away thinking they played well, or at least they shouldn't. Alonso was better than most, although his free-kicks etc were pretty poor. And Torres worked hard but it wasn't difficult for them to stop him. If the ref had been a bit tougher with yellows on their 'by fair means or foul' approach then maybe he'd have had more space.

That said, I do hope they learn from tonight
We still have most of the work to do. The old way of thinking is that 0-0 away is a good result, fact is an away goal can be priceless. The SL fan is right in that they only need a score draw and we're out, that means 1-0 will make the players anxious so well need to be looking for the second goal. 0-0 isn't the worst result in the world, it does mean we have to win. The one advantage, besides home advantage, is that they will probably be very cautious.
What we must do is defend better, zonal marking has to go in my opinion. None of the defenders seemed to know what they were doing and SL could easily have been two up in no time at all, one due to a dodgy handball penalty, but the other down to terrible defending from a set-piece. It MAY improve over the course of the season, but it hasn't since we adopted it so what makes anyone think the defenders will get the hang of it now?
If we play like that on Saturday then we'll be lucky to escape with a draw. I think there is a strong chance that won't be the starting XI.
