Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Yeah  but nebody linked with Chelsea is instantly overrated due to the inflated transfer fees mentioned.  Drogba is a good player but by putting a £24million transfer fee on him u instantly overate him

I think a transfer would do Raul the world of good.  At 27 he's young enough to get back to his best form, I'd sign him if he's available.  I'd definitely sign him ahead of Crouch FFS

Also I think Zenden is a smart signing on a free if it happens.  Good player who gives us another option

Reina looks a done deal.  Not seen much of him to be honest but sounds impressive.  I'd get rid of kirkland before dudek, can't depend on him to stay fit.  Dudek's champ lge final performance may have been enough for Benitez to keep him another year.

Raul would be a great signing...as long as he is fully aware that he plays for us...not the other way round!  Raul has spent te last few years at Real, getting managers sacked and causing all sorts of bother.

Mellor, i'd let him go.  The lad isn't quick enough and is quite an average player, at 22 i can't see him getting much better so i'd cash in on him and either push a youngster up or use Ping pong more.

Zenden..hmm, i was dubious to start with on this, but he would be a free and would be a handy squad player....so yeah, i'd bring him in.

Peter Crouch......please no...

Raul wouldn't have the same power at Anfield - he's not the fan's goldenboy.  He'd just be another player, whose opinions may be as important as the next player, but they wouldn't be the be all and end all.

From Sky Sports:

Fuelling rumours of Raul's departure from his home-town club are suggestions that Real have reignited their pursuit of Internazionale's Adriano.

The prolific Brazilian has been strongly linked with a switch to The Premiership and Chelsea but reports from Italy have suggested a choice from Luis Figo, Walter Samuel, Guti, Michael Owen and Santiago Solari have been offered in part-exchange.

Thats a lot of players in 'part exchange' for Adriano, including Michael Owen :(

Just a word about Kuiyt, saw him play yesterday in Netherlands - Romania 2-0. He was really good, fast on the wing and great in making himself available at corners and freekicks - scored a goal by the way, after a little professional foul.

He would be good for Liverpool, but I fear he is a little bit of a cheater after that goal..  ???  p*ssed me off with that one  :veryangry  (by the way, I am romanian)

After all there would be benefits if Gerrard DOES leave. He would ease up Liverpool's budget as apparently he has a very high salary demand. Also the 50 million pounds doesnt come too often. Im sure with that transfer kitty alone we can equip our team with 3 world class players. However, I would rather he stay as Liverpool's golden era is very close to appraoching.

Hope to see gerrard stay but if not then 50 milion would be an unbelievable amount of money to finance a wonderful squad. Big players have moved on in the past and we have moved on remember Keegan?  Rush, Barnes, Fowler need i go on.

European kings Liverpool appear most likely to edge out Newcastle and Middlesbrough in the race for Birmingham defender Matthew Upson.

Upson's agent Barry Nevill has put the cat among the pigeons at St Andrews by breaking off talks over a new five-year contract for the 26-year-old and saying "Matt does need to be playing European football with his club side if he is to make any headway internationally".

Upson is desperate to be involved in England's World Cup 2006 campaign in Germany - but is way down the pecking order at the moment, with John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Wes Brown, Zat Knight and Ledley King ahead of him in Sven-Goran Eriksson's plans.

The revelation that Upson will 'consider his options' this summer has alerted a number of Premiership clubs.

But Liverpool appear to be ahead of rival suitors Boro and Newcastle as they are pushing hard to be in next season's Champions League - but more importantly offer the best chance of first-team football.
Jamie Carragher is first-choice centre-back at Anfield - but the January transfer window arrival of Mauricio Pellgrino from Valencia shows Reds boss Rafael Benitez has doubts over the ageing Sam Hyypia, whose pace has been found wanting at the highest level in recent times.

Upson could forge a solid all-English partnership with Carragher, whereas Titus Bramble and Jean Alain Boumsong are established at St James' Park, and Gareth Southgate is regularly chosen in tandem with Ugo Ehiogu or Chris Riggott when all are fully fit.

taken from media watch on liverpoolfc.tv

I think upson would be a good signing personally.
