but then I read this quote by Rafa in an article on the Official website - "I would say 50 per cent of the players in the Premiership are worse than him". Very distressing our level of ambition - where would SAF have placed Kleberson!

Quote mistranslated.

On teamtalk Parry said this:

"Rafa's knowledge of the Spanish scene immediately encouraged him to move for a man who would have been an important addition to our squad"

the way Parry phrased that it looks like Speedy might not be joining us. :(

Pauls right, no Speedy for the time being, it's a shame he looks quality, hopefully we'll get him in Jan

"Parry told the official LFC magazine: "Our chase to sign Mark Gonzalez is over for the time being. We were surprised when our application for a work permit was turned down."

Oh and i'm with Stmick! were's the dancing lady gone :( :( :(

What i dont understand is how Chile are ranked so low (72). I mean the got to the 2nd of the 98 world cup. When have Austria got to a big tournament in the last 10 years? And there higher up than Chile.

One thing i forgot to mention is how Nolberto Solano (formely of Newcastle and Villa) got a work permit and Peru are 73rd

And what about Park Ji Sung going to Man Utd. Korea DPR are 91st

Its an absolut disgrace that these players have managed to gain work permits to play in the UK and all their respective countries are lower ranked than Chile. Anyone else share there thoughts?

The whole situation is bullsh#t. It appears to me that Gonzalez is actually being punished because his country is cr@p at football. That can't be right surely?

I know there is one rule which says that a player must have played in 75% of his countries games in the preceding year to be eligible. To be honest I don't know if he would have qualified under that rule anyway but apparently this wasn’t the problem. The reason given was that Chile are officially outside the worlds top 70 in the FIFA rankings.

What a load of garbage.

Indeed. I wonder what the rule for the goverment is on people entering the country to incite racial hatred...Anyhooo

Its a shame about how this has turned out. I hope that Rafa is still keen on pursuing the player and i also hope someone gets a talking to at the home office. Bunch of clowns.

Losing Gonzalez is a big big blow to our title challenge. I really think his pace and dribbling skills could have made a difference and provided quality crosses for our strikers. I guess the thing is he was cheap. If we had paid £ 8 million for him then maybe they would have granted him a permit. I also wonder if the office is full of united or everton supporters?

Have you noticed that on SSP when there scrolling through each teams transfers they still have Gonzalez under liverpool. Why is that ? I assumed that if his permit was rejected then the loan deal was of?

Why is that? Maybe because they haven't updated their page yet. :D

The loan deal is off for now.
