As for Sissoko, like i said, i don't care if he turns out to be class. Whats the point? We've already got Gerrard and Alonso... we need to improve, not solidify. We aren't currently strong enough in ALOT of areas.

Why are you so stubborn on this issue? What happens when Gerrard and Alonso get injured, like it happened last season. Hamann isn't going to last all season as he's in his 30's. You got have depth in a squad. Yes Gerrard and Alonso are class but don't expect them to play every single game next season, they could be injured or suspended. You never know, once again I point out what happened last season.

We have NO QUALITY on the right of midfield, we have 2 unproven strikers and one thats proven he's not good enough. We have TWO quality centre backs and NO COVER. We have a solid but not spectacular left side. The central midfield positions are the only ones with real out an out class there so why spend more money on that area for a player who MIGHT be god enough to be third choice? It doesn't make sense to me.

Strengthen your weakest area's first would havew been my priority.

You're reacting as if the transfer window closes tomorrow. The transfer window is open until the 30th of August which is plenty of time for Rafa to buy cover for the back four, a striker and right winger. FFS come on.

Totally agree A.B.

just to add that i think we will see Sissoko playing more in the Didi role anyway, seen as he is getting on a bit. Believe me he is a serious workhorse, and thats what we need, a player with a great engine, a defensive midfielder that can also do the box to box work, like Viera (used to do).

You're missing the point... What if Gerrard and Alonso don't get injured?

Whats the point in strengthening an area you are already amoungst the best in europe in? strengthen the weakest area's first.

Infact, what am i talking about? Why don't we go and sign Lampard, Makelele, Gattuso, Pirlo, Scholes, Jenas, Vieira, Keane, Gilberto, Parker and every other decent centre mid out there. :censored: not having ANYRIGHT WINGERS. It doesn't matter as long as we have 50 central midfielders.

Zenden     Gerrard    Alonso    ??????
               Lampard   Vieira
               Gattuso    Hamann
               Pirlo         Scholes

Brilliant. Then if we get an injury in the centre we're covered. Superb. Its not like we need a winger anyway i mean Nunez is quality and Luis Garcia is a natural winger and not a forward, he's also right footed not left.

I'm sorry but to me...

Zenden    Gerrard     Alonso     Joaquin

looks 10 times stronger than...

Zenden     Gerrard     Alonso     Sissoko (out of position or Nunez)

No need to get agitated Stu....maybe you know you are wrong and thats why we are now seeing the sarcasm!!
Both Gerrard and Alonso get well stuck in and therefore this INCREASES the chance of being injured, if you want to take the risk of NOT having back-up in ALL positions, especially the 'engine room' of the team, then i really dont understand your reasoning at all...Sorry!

Firstly I dont really see Sissoko playing out of position (as you have convenietly chosen to do to make your point!) and we will see him more when we play 5 in the midfield.

Also of course Joaquin would be an asset, who WOULDNT want him, but c'mon be realistic, there is no point talking about players we do not have (yet!! you never know!). Talk about those WE DO have.

I would love Ronaldinho and Adriano but REALISTICALLY it is not gonna happen is it??

If you can't debate something without insulting others intelligence then by all means don't debate at all.

What if Gerrard and Alonso don't get injured?

You're still missing the point. The fact of the matter is that we will be playing more games than any other side in England or in Europe for that matter. The last time I checked Alonso and Gerrard aren't robots, you can't expect them to play 90 minutes of 70-80 some games next season. You can't expect them not to get tired or suspended, and with all our luck you can bet your sarcastic :censored: that one of them will get injured.

Zenden    Gerrard     Alonso     Joaquin

Zenden isn't a right winger he's a left winger, and Joaquin is a right winger

so it goes:

Joaquin        Alonso       Gerrard      Zenden

Nobody said that we don't need a right :censored: winger, just because we haven't bought one doesn't mean that we aren't getting one. NOTE: The trasnfer market is open until AUGUST 30th That's almost a month + from now.

And if you believe that Nunez will be first choice on the wing then you've lost your mind. Plus Benitez told Nunez that he's free to look for a club he can join.

Stu: its like criticising a cook making a cake who has still got to put the raisens and sherry into the mix!

Rick Parry said we'll buy another centre half and Zaragoza said that they rejected a £7.5m bid for Millito.

We therefore know that there is at least £7.5m to spend on a centre half.

Its no secret that we have bid £6million for Crouch, so we know that there is at least £6million available for a striker.

I don't know how much is available for a right winger but we are trying to sign Figo. I know he'll only be a short term option but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Jaoquin is not an option as even if he wanted to come to us (and there is a chance that he would) as soon as Betis hinted they might sell Chelsea and Madrid would simply outbid us.

th way i see it, liverpool need at least 5 midfielders in the centre.
this is because we will play 5 across the midfield sometimes.
therefore at least 3 of those 5 midfielders will be left out.

seems to me everyones arguing for the sake of it, when you all agree with each other. Stu's right that centre mid is not our priority. We absolutely must strengthen the defence. Everyone else is also right in that there's plenty of chance for us to get the defender(s) and right mid players, and maybe swop Baros for a better forward, before the season starts proper.
I see every reason to be optimistic - clearly Rafa has enough funds at his disposal to make a £5 mil bid for a promising player, in a position that we don't need to strengthen that much, so there must be enough to get the players we need too. And Sissoko is only 20 and already good enough for the Spanish league - his value is likely to go up, so we are unlikely to lose. Plus, we had to buy him now if at all as he would otherwise have gone over the road. Extra bonus - we have a player who has no hesitation in joining us knowing he'll warm the bench instead of signing for Everton and playing every week. It all looks positive to me

people are acting as if rafa has finished signing players.
does it really matter in which order the players are bought in?
i can guarentee you that rafa will sign a centre back, striker and a right winger.
its still early days yet in the transfer market.
just be patient.

and just to back this up this is what rafa said yesterday-

Benitez said: "Sissoko will join us in training camp, he cannot play in the first qualifying round but will be with the first-team players.

"We have [Steven] Gerrard, [Dietmar] Hamann, [Xabi] Alonso, [Boudewijn] Zenden sure, but when they see 'Momo' running they will know that they have to give me a bit more.

"We need a central defender. I have told [Jamie] Carragher and [Sami] Hyypia this because we need more competition. We also need a right-sided midfielder and a striker.

"The statistics show that we needed to improve in defence, we need more clean sheets so we have to improve with new players. We lost a lot of games 1-0, that means we need to be stronger."

I think the 30th August. That used to be the cutoff point for signing players for European competition and I think that it now goes for the Premiership as well.
