So what? Raul failed to make the grade at Atletico Madrid, they released him from their youth team and Real Madrid signed him afterwards.

raul never failed at athletico madrid, the crazy president  jesus gill decided to scrap the youth system to save money, that is how raul ended up at real madrid.

Well not exactly stick. He is in a wooden box buried, died a couple years ago (1). :blues:

Mighty Mo was right about that point, they left nothing but the Atlético Madrid "B", not sub16 teams, and thus Raul was free and joined Real Madrid.

Yes, Jesus Gil, the fat. Was some sort of gangster but with no murders involved. He made a TV program in late eighties in which he presented in a pool surrounded by 5 girls. Was elected mayor of Marbella, and enriched himself illegally. He sacked Atkinson and 15 more, that bench was known as the electric bench. I miss him. He was corrupt, and a bast*rd, but he definitely made the monday mornings more interesting while you read his latest explosive phrases. *sigh*

I have to say there is a possiblity that Simao will be a puffy player and not adjust to this style of play but you have to remeber Benitez picked out Garcia who is a similar kind of player and he has come good, and he came good very quickly. I have to mention also that its not unheard of to see players becoming sensations from foriegn leagues, i.e. Cristiano ronaldo. But i take on board you point of him maybe being a lightwieght.

As much as I hate to admit it, Ronaldo is the best winger in the premiership, followed by Robben.

For 12m, I'd expect Simao to be as good as both of them, but I doubt he is. Joaquin...maybe? But why the fk didnt we pick up those other 2 when they were available??? And how many more are out there we havent heard of? I hadnt heard of Ronaldo before he signed with the scum. And Robben was like Dirk Kuyt. A good player playing in a 2nd rate league but unproven in top class league.

you can't expect a club's scouting system to pick up every good but relatively unknown player around the world. sure, in the premiership there is talent like robben, ronaldo, reyes etc etc all over the premiership and all players i'd love to see at our place. but how many other teams are kicking themselves they never picked up on alonso before we did?

from what i can tell, we have a very good policy of picking up good young players. in our youth team we have idrizaj, hobbes, calliste, barragan etc etc... all promising.

Real Madrid and Man Utd wanted to buy Alonso, so they are kicking themselves and if not then they should be.
