Should we not appoint a british manager?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby maximus » Tue Jun 08, 2004 12:51 pm

I feel the way forward is the appointment of a british manager, ie. Alan Curbishley, good young manager with passion and pride in what he wants from his club and players. He knows the premiership, over achieved at Charlton, and really should be given the chance to step up to the next level.

Is the foreign manager the right route? I am not so sure, take Wenger out of the equation, tell me of another suscces story in the premiership? None? How much does senior Benitez know about Liverpool and the traditions that surround this great club?

Yes 2 championsghhips in La Liga out of 3 is impressive, he's done it on a shoestring budget, (ie. Alan Curbishley restraints at Charlton)

Food for thought I think.

i heard a mamber of the fa whinging the other day about the influx of foreign managers in the premiership and i thought to myself "what is this guy on about?". surely top european coaches can only improve the standard of play in this country and attract other top class players?

anyway, if you take ireland as being british, then there is only wenger, mourihno, santini and possibly our new manager who are foreign, so what's all the fuss about? ???

i think we should ban all "who should we buy?", "who should we get rid of?" threads until we have a new manager. there's too many repetitive threads on here.

i urge all forum members to start threads on issues which have not been debated yet.

Sometimes a thread is worth resurrecting but in this case when Benitez looks to be in already and most of us are looking forward to it I don't see the point.

Yes.. lets give british manager's a chance.. Curbishley can prcatice his tactical skills by becoming the next England manager!...we don't want guineapigs at LFC.. we've got to get on and start winning things not scramble for survival or mid table mediocrity.

curbishley for next england boss is a great shout. unfortunately no top english club wants to be the first to break the mould and take a chance on an up and coming english manager. they all want "proven track records" even if certain young bosses have performed miracles with no money.

sad but true.

John Barnes is the only man.

A former player of the year who made Celtic into a top 2 team. His heroic efforts nearly let Celtic grab a draw against Caledonian Thistle.

The guy is a genius.
