LFC_fan has the perfect formation. The only set back is not having Bellamy on the pitch and perhaps Crouch could be dropped in this formation for Bellamy. Otherwise, I think Sissoko, Alonson and Gerrard should all be on the pitch as well Gonzalez and Pennant so really, it is the only way the format can go.

Ace, don't think there's a manager in the Prem' who'd play 3 up front away from home (maybe Maureen but we know what we think about him) As has been said before, this is practically a must win.... We need to send a message out these first few weeks, wasn't it only one win out of the first six league games last year? From October we were practically untouchable but it truly is about all 38 matches and we can't afford a slow start..... Playing catch up's the hardest thing to do....

I don't see there being much of a problem with this formation. There is still a strong back four and a strong attacking presence with the right balance and it will allow Finnan and Riise to bomb forward, whilst you get the attacking presence of Gerrard, the defensive presence of Sissoko and the creative presence of Alonso with three different strikers up front, it's worth a shot, but I can't see it being played.

We should do a competition about our accuracy in our predictions. Last year I paid some attention to this and I'd say Rafa always put a couple of surprises - not regulars in almost every starting eleven.

Those rotations are a must, as the start of the season is well intense with European matches and everything.

------------------Reina----------------------

Finnan    Carra    Hyppia    Fabio Aurelio

-----------------Alonso-------------
Pennant            Gerrard        González

                Bellamy

                            Crouch.

Subs:

LG for Bellamy, 30 mins or so.
Sissoko for Alonso, last 15 mins
Riise for Aurelio 30 mins or so  :)

Against lesser teams yes, this formation could work effectively for us and I'd like that too but it's unlikely that Rafa would ever go for that sort of formation specially when we are short of one striker.

Yeah that's true, and you have the fact that it could prove to be too narrow. I'd say it would be worth a shot as it's a similar formation to a 3-5-2 (in the sense that it enables wing backs) and some have said that 3-1 win over Newcastle was our best performance of the season.

3 up front is the sort of thing Rafa might try in a Carling Cup game, I just can't see it at this level, a cagey first half I reckon but if Momo establishes himself early on, the Blades will wonder what planet they're on..... Welcome to Planet Football boys!

Reina
Finnan   Carra    Agger     Aurelio

Pennant   Gerrard  Alonso    Gonzo
                Fowler
                       Bellamy
Subs: Crouch, Riise, Hyypia, sissoko, Anderson ( and garcia if crouch has to start for fowler)
I would like to see how aurelio and gonzo would work together on the left side, I think they could provide a really strong attacking threat. If Fowler is fit, I would like to see him and Bellamy work together as a strikeforce, I have been in love with them working together ever since Fowler's backheel pass to set up Bellamy against Wrexham.  Course we would probably put out a stronger side with Crouch starting, which would be the case if Fowler can't play.  I would look to sub in Riise for Gonzo, and move Aurelio up to midfield, but allowing them to switch and cover for each other whenever neccessary.  I would only look to sub in sissoko for alonso if the match isn't going our way, momo has been playing like an animal, and I would want to look to keep him rested to play that way for the entire season.  Alsonso still needs to get going up to his top playing level, but he is close.  Also would like to see what Anderson can do down the right side once the match is no longer in doubt.

Gerrard and Crouch will definately NOT start with the kick off being so early on Sat.

The starting team will be something like:

              Reina

Finnan  Carra   Agger/Hyypia    Riise.

Pennant  Sissoko  Alonso    Gonzo/Zenden

              Garcia
                         Bellamy.

With Fowler probably coming on second half, so too Gerrard.

or 4-5-1 formation as Rafa likes to play, away:

                 Reina

Finnan    Carra      Hyypia/Agger    Riisse

                  Sissoko

Pennant     Alonso    Zenden     GOnzo

                    Bellamy.

Either way, I predict one hell of a pasting for the Blades.
