Pennant, Riise and Carra weren't on the pitch long enough to make a significant impact, hence no rating.

Think you've been very generous there LFC, I'd go:
Reina-7
Kromkamp-5
Sammi-6
Agger-6
Aurelio-5
Gerrard-7
Zenden-5
Momo-6
Gonzalez-6
Bellamy-6
Fowler-5

i understand what you are saying dawson, but we needed to hit the ground running today, we needed the 3 points and we didnt get it. the performance was poor however you want to dress it up and i think the performance was poor because of the team selection

fabio is going to be a great signing, he is good on the ball and as a good range of passing

bellamy looked quick and sharp, fowler looked fit,

agger settled well again, it is disappointing to see zenden start in the middle and to have pennant on the bench wasn't the best, but we have to accept that rafa likes to rotate so people should accept that we have a strong sqaud and that it is hard to pick a STRONGEST TEAM, today is a bit negitive due to the injuries but that is why we have a squad at the end of the day

gonzalez looked fast as well.

yeah well im not gonna moan. we shoulda won but we didnt, but we didnt lose. Of course pennant should have come on earlier and stevie should have gone to the middle, but that didnt happen, nothing we can do about that.

im syill gonna blame the long grass for us falling over a lot

Yeah we drew with sheff utd, but they were fighting for it, it was there biggest league game in over 12 years. We played a reserve style squad as we have a very important match on tuesday. And we didnt lose.

Hopefully after this result some of the newbie idiots on here might leave and become cheatski fans.

No the performance wasnt THAT bad, but thats not the point.
This was the opening game of the season and obvious to anyone that it was a potential banana skin so why not play the strongest team, get the win and start the season on a high ?
I understand we have a vital game on Tuesday but we would of been going to Kiev brimming with confidence had the full first team played and won convincingly.
What bothers me most is Zenden playing, why not play Pennant and leave Gerrard in the centre ?
Obviously Alonso and Finnan had knocks as they were not even subs and with the unfortunate first half injuries Rafa's subs were badly limited. Starting Robbie was a bit strange as well considering he has been injured.
I think Rafa got it wrong but that United or Chelsea could drop points at Bramall lane as well, it wont be an easy game for anyone there.

the only players that arnt recognised first teamers were Krompkamp(Finnan injured) Zenden( Alonso injured?) Aurelio(Had a storming game midweek) Fowler (Crouch looked knackered for England midweek)Rafa couldnt make the substitutions he would have liked because of injuries to Carragher and Riise. We didnt play well but we still could and should have won, we were much the better team. Dawson makes a good point we wernt that bad!

Aurelio looked light years away from being a Liverpool fullback . the way he stood and just admired the sheffield player as he ran in and scored was f'uckin' criminal . And why start with Zenden in the middle and Gerrard out wide ? Surely  Gerrard in the middle and Pennant out wide (which we eventually got) adds more quality to the starting 11 ?

First game and all that ,so won't get too alarmed but Rafa once again has got me scratching my head .

I thought we were poor first half.  Didnt get going at all. Too many balls were hit in front of the Sheff Utd back 4 making it easy for them defend against.

One setback and some to$$ers are already saying we have lost the EPL. Get a grip its one game, we have another 37 to put it right. I am as upset and disapointed as anyone but FFS its ONE GAME!

lets not forget we missed a hsedload of chances and will improove.

whats a worse result, us drawing away to sheff utd or the gooners drawing at home to villa (not saying they will, but if they dio do you think there fans will be this bad???)

:D

That's not the point, we are already at a disadvantage already, dropping two points in the very first game of the season against mediocre opposition is a set back and it adds more pressure on the players, which is something, the new lads could of done without. Two points doesn't seem like a lot, but it could and I'm pretty sure will be costly come the end of the season.

LFC #1 wrote:Like expected, tough game and a draw isn't a terrible result considering how average we played.

Riise's injury looked pretty serious may be out a couple of months I reckon. Fowler drifted in and out of the game, but had some excellent touches and looked better when he dropped deeper to come and get the ball (the 1-2 for the "penalty" was class). Gerrard was the stand out in midfield for me, while Zenden and Sissoko were poor in midfield. Sissoko didn't have his usual impact and Zenden was non-existent. Gonzalez worked hard and did reasonably I thought, Aurelio didn't impress that much though... early days, they need time to settle.

Bellamy was dangerous when he got on the ball and worked very hard up front, either himself or Stevie were the best players for us IMO. Defensively we didn't have that much to do, but the marking for the goal was calamitous. Kromkamp did ok, but didn't offer as much going forward as Finnan would have if fit. Sami was a tower of strength in the air as usual, but he got isolated a couple of times in the first half, while Agger did ok, but I think he was the man who lost Hulse for the goal.

Overall a pretty average performance, can only improve.

Ratings:

Reina: 7
Kromkamp: 6
Sami: 7
Agger: 6
Aurelio: 6
Gerrard: 7.5
Zenden: 5
Momo: 6
Gonzalez: 7
Bellamy: 7.5
Fowler: 6

Pennant, Riise and Carra weren't on the pitch long enough to make a significant impact, hence no rating.

I have to disagree with you in one part. First Fowler, well he did show some good touches, but he dissapointed me with couple of his touches in the 1st half, like bellamy's pass to him which fowler should have buried when he got it. I think Aurelio did well, he did show some decent passes and crosses into the box, he was going forward alot when he was switched into the left back role and  he looks like a really excellent free kick taker, very good save from kenny to deny aurelio. I agree, Zenden was awful he lost the ball too much in the middle, but i disagree with you about sissoko, ok he didn't have his best games but he did break up some plays in the middle and went forward. Yes Gerrard was fantastic, he was everywhere!! Although he was very fortunate with the penalty, but I don't care!  Bellamy is a very hardworker, wow the guy has immense speed but the problem is that he didn't get enough balls because of our sloppy passes. Liverpool missed Alonso in this game, Rafa should have at least put him on bench to change the game afterwards. Liverpool woke up when Hulse scored. Negatives: poor set piece defending to give a goal that way! Hulse had a free header!! where was the defence to mark him?

I think alot of you are taking only the negatives in this game, I mean come on guys, what would you say if Livepool won the game? Yes, today the starting eleven wasn't our best, but it is still good enough to beat teams like sheff. utd and others! We can't only blame Rafa, but also the players who should have played better. Remember that we were unfortunate with our injuries in the first half which minimized our chances to change the game with our substitution.  I think the positives in the game is our high tempo and counter attacks which are improving because we got some fast players into our squad. At last we have pace in our team that can be used. Don't worry guys, its only a game and we still have 37 games left.

Fair result in the end,  credit to sheff.united for defending very well.
