Im not so sure goalkeeping standards have dropped.Scrapping the back pass made life a lot more difficult for keepers.I would imagine people like Clemence,Shilton,Jennings etc would find life a lot tougher if they were playing in the premiership today.

Not forgetting the silly footballs used in the modern game today.

I hated playing with footballs like that when I was a kid, you know the sort - plastic, one small gust of wind it would change the direction of the ball.

They are now using similar footballs in the premiership today !!

Van Der Saar would be a nice steal and a fine goalkeeper for the next 5 years. Kirkland is a decent backup and Dudek should be sold or given away.

Clemence never made a save for Liverpool. The opposition never got into our half. All he did was keep warm by running along the 18 yard line  :)

We don't need him.

Kirkland should be a number 1 for the next 10+ years.

Given is overated anyway.

I can't believe people are mentioning van der Sar.

He's inconsistent, flaps on corners and isn't the best off his line. He was sold by Juventus for a reason and he plays for Fulham for a reason, that reason is he's not good enough for Liverpool.

He's had his chance at a big club and its gone, he's to old and not good enough. I'd take Dudek over him.

Spot on Stu. Dudek isn't perfect but if Van Der Sar was any good he wouldn't be playing for Fulham

Cudicini wont be happy on the bench at Chelsea. He could be a realistic buy in the transfer window.

Cudicini is my first choice but I don't know if he'd leave Chelsea as he said he's happy to be second choice and wait for his chance :(

It does make sense to some degree. Jerzy Dudek is an unstable goalkeeper and it will take time for Chris Kirkland to adapt due to the fact that he has been injured for a while. What some of us want is a stable goalkeeper who will give his 100% in every game.

I don`t disagree with the statement that life is more difficult for goalies today than it was in the "Shilton, Jennings, Clemmence-era", but when David James is rated as one of Englands two best goalies, I believe this is proof of a drop in goalkeeping standards.

To be honest i don't rate many goalkeepers around these days. Canizares, Kahn, Toldo an Buffon are about the best i've seen, Buffon and Toldo are to inconsistent tho.

The standard of goalkeeping over the last few years has dipped immensely if you ask me.

very true, on the point of shay given personally i dont like small goalkeepers, a good tall goalkeeper is better at corners and long distance shots, in my opinion anyway.

van der sar is about 33 now, and you want him to be our goalkeeper for the next 5 years!
