Aguero, 17 years old is considered to be Argentina’s hottest prospect and it appears Athletico have won the race to his signature. Bayern Munich and Liverpool were also in competition for the player’s signature, but as AS reported the players prefered a move to a spanish speaking country.

Marca has confirmed a week ago that Liverpool were in talks with the player, who wasn’t considering staying one more year at Independiente

I guess thats another one gone right past us. He wanted to play for us and we got beaten by Athletico Madrid

Cheers Sabre. If they are in debt, I have no idea how they can afford Rosicky as well. I also heard they are trying to keep Torres by having class players and challenging for trophies.

He's probably sick of Kezmen :D

Ho hum..

Well you get some you lose some..

But I'd think Rafa's probably watching some other unknown player.

Maybe Aguero isnt just suited for Liverpool..

In association with San Miguel, get deeper into Spanish football.

Atletico Madrid
Independiente have moved to deny reports emanating from Spain claiming that Atletico Madrid had agreed a deal for starlet Sergio Aguero.

The 17-year-old forward is one of South America's brightest prospects and became the youngster player ever to appear in the Argentine league when he made his debut at the age of just 15 and four days in 2003.

Despite his tender years he is already a regular goalscorer for his club having notched eight times in this year's Torneo Clausura.

A number of European sides are understood to be monitoring his progress including Villarreal, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

However, sources in Spain insisted on Friday that Atletico had beaten them all to the punch and secured the teenager's services for next season.

That is a claim flatly denied by Independiente president Julio Comparada who is adamant no deal has been agreed with the Spaniards.

"I deny totally what has been said in Spain in the last hours," Comparada told Todo Noticias. "Nobody can say that negotiations have been agreed.

"I am very surprised about what has been said in Spain, I don't know the reasons.

"I have spoken to the president of Atletico Madrid a while ago and nothing has been agreed. When we end our participation in the Torneo Clausura we are going to analyse the different proposals that we have and then we will see how this continues. But at the moment Aguero still belongs to Independiente".

However, the Argentine supremo did admit that Atletico were leading the race for Aguero's signature and conceded he was likely to move on at the end of the season.

"The proposal that we have received from Atletico Madrid is the only one that is near to what Independiente wants for the player," he continued.

"We have made a very important financial offer to Aguero in the last few weeks but he didn't accept it so it's going to be very difficult for us to make him stay much longer."

Torres is a player I don't want, I've heard he's very inconsistant, he'd also be over - priced.

Well all i read ( as lousy as the source site may have been) is that we are favourates to sign him becasue apparently he will only play under Benitez. But ive also heard that hid agents are pusing him to play for Arsenal or Chelsea becasue they can arrange a bigger transfer fee.

I think his contract is up this year.

No, not really, not even in the press that like to extend  rumours... but believe me, he's not worth of the money. The mere fact that he was the Atletico Madrid's jewell, but they've signed up Kezman yesteryear and Agüero now, says it all! He scores a lot of sitters and all penalties of his team.

torres at best would be a good squad player with a bit of flair ala garcia - aguero COULD become a world class player ala maradonna/rooney/ronaldinho surely it would be worth a flutter on getting a future world class striker. who now wouldnt pay 8 million for ronaldiho before he went to psg. i think its time we started buyng less players but with more quality. 2 this summer is all we need aguero and swp. forget squad players we have enough of them out on loan!

I know its unlikely and not specific to us but what do people think of a wage cap alongside a maximum amount of money to spend of say 20 million a year on new players to stop chelseas and to a lesser degree other clubs dominence. This would lead to the best managers, scouting systems and fans enjoying the glory of title races and cup runs rather than who has the most money. Also what about 3 teams to qualify for champions league from premiership and a spot for the fa cup to make it more exciting.
