Atletico Madrid
Independiente have moved to deny reports emanating from Spain claiming that Atletico Madrid had agreed a deal for starlet Sergio Aguero.
The 17-year-old forward is one of South America's brightest prospects and became the youngster player ever to appear in the Argentine league when he made his debut at the age of just 15 and four days in 2003.
Despite his tender years he is already a regular goalscorer for his club having notched eight times in this year's Torneo Clausura.
A number of European sides are understood to be monitoring his progress including Villarreal, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
However, sources in Spain insisted on Friday that Atletico had beaten them all to the punch and secured the teenager's services for next season.
That is a claim flatly denied by Independiente president Julio Comparada who is adamant no deal has been agreed with the Spaniards.
"I deny totally what has been said in Spain in the last hours," Comparada told Todo Noticias. "Nobody can say that negotiations have been agreed.
"I am very surprised about what has been said in Spain, I don't know the reasons.
"I have spoken to the president of Atletico Madrid a while ago and nothing has been agreed. When we end our participation in the Torneo Clausura we are going to analyse the different proposals that we have and then we will see how this continues. But at the moment Aguero still belongs to Independiente".
However, the Argentine supremo did admit that Atletico were leading the race for Aguero's signature and conceded he was likely to move on at the end of the season.
"The proposal that we have received from Atletico Madrid is the only one that is near to what Independiente wants for the player," he continued.
"We have made a very important financial offer to Aguero in the last few weeks but he didn't accept it so it's going to be very difficult for us to make him stay much longer."
