Read the book "Futeball" Taff. Its an excellent account of the good, and the bad, of Brazilian football.

Some of the stories are bizare, like the couple of Brazilian footballers who were so desperate to get a contract in Europe they ended up in the Faroe Islands league, gutting fish in part time jobs and going to matches in fishing trawlers. Even so, they were treated like Gods home back in their small town in Brazil.

Ill give that a go thanks.
Read some stuff on it its a grim story although South America can be a grim place.

The thing with Robinho is that they recognised him as a special talent and have wrapped him up but theres a huge industry out there

Its not all bad though Taff. Some great yarns about Brazil in general, about how its really obsessed with football more than any other country in the world.

Apparently Pele is not Brazil's all time favourite footballer. The book says Brazilians find Pele a bit aloof, particularly since he went into politics.

Apparently the great Brazilian hero is Garrincha (sic), the "little bird", the player the Brazilians see as the greatest ever. His story is very tragic though, I think he died alone in terrible poverty.

1958 and 1962 I believe Greenred.

He was the small guy who suffered from a childhood disease which made his legs partially deformed. Allegedly his condition actually allowed him to dribble in such a way that a regular player never could.

Seen him in old black and white footage a few times, but its hard to compare him to todays players seeing that in those days the football looked bigger than the players (who all looked about 50!) and the footage seems to be running twice as fast as normal tv!

i remember reading about him a while back, his legs were strangely curved, as JBG said from a childhood disease.

If you look at his feet you can imagine how good he'd be at turning a fullback.

(there's a gay innuendo smart ****** comment coming from somewhere)
