Reina - Could be poached

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The Ace1983 » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:05 pm

The Spanish paper AS are reporting that Atletico Madrid are sniffing around Pepe Reina because their keeper isn't performing consistantly. They have apparently sounded out his agent about a move in the near future. But Pepe is our established No.1 and has said that he is very happy at Liverpool.
...

I hope this is idle gossip (in fact i think it is) but it's still worrying. Carson is coming along nicely, but Pepe has given our team confidence and a new dimension in attack because of his spot on distribution. Would Carson be ready? How bad would it be if he left? Who would you get to replace him?

no need to replace him, why would Pepe downgrade like that?

Pepe has been genius for us, yeah hes dodgy at times, but we like that, overall i rate him sooo much, his work behind the back 4 has enabled us to have the best defence in the premiership and i realyl couldnt see him wanting to leave whats lookig like a VERY promising team for athletico.

Just read that, I don't think there is any need to panic, he's goin nowhere, like you said, why would he downgrade.

it will definitely affect the defense after all the years playing together the trust and style of play have been gotten used to. and carson isnt exactly ready yet. getting a replacement for reina is hard enough, and if we do, the price will be pretty massive. i can't think of anyone tbh. how old is buffon?

I doubt Pepe will leave

but if he did I don't know who we'd get to replace him, we'd have to dip into the market tho because I don't think Carson is good enough atm

carson got player of the season at charlton last year and he is playing pretty well at villa at the moment. I think you may be under estimating him.

It's as simple as Dawson puts it.

It sounds like the typical baseless speculative sh!te tabloids love to print.

Unless of course Reina has been lying in all of his interviews and secretly harbours a burning desire to play for Atletico Madrid.

To sum up, it's utter sh!te.

i cannot see this happeneing and it would be a downgrade to go there, that club is always in turmoil, not a happy place to play football, why leave liverpool when things are on the up and in a position to dominate at home and aborad for the next few years

No chance he'll go to Athletico...

However, should hell freeze over, then give Carson a go... I think he's got what it takes though probably still needs a bit more experience.

I could only really ever see this happening if Pepe wanted to return to spain or lost his place in the team but I can't see that currently happening. It's well known that the Spanish sports press are as bad as ours if not worse for printing bullshit like this on a slow news day.

It's like Chelsea enquiring about Ronaldinho. Just because another club wants him, doesn't mean they can have him. As the original post says "he said that he is very happy at Liverpool".

End of.
