Reds snap up asdarevic

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

From Eurosport:

Liverpool have sealed a deal to bring 16-year-old Swedish striker Astrit Ajdarevic to Anfield.

The highly-rated youngster, who represented Sweden at the European under-17 Championships, recently completed a trial period at Liverpool, and the North-West club have now agreed to pay his club Falkenburg an initial transfer fee of between £1 and 2.5 million.

"It's the biggest deal I have ever made," Falkenburg chairman Lars-Eric Nilsson told Hallands Nyheter.

"It's rare for a player of his age, it's impressive. We went back and forth for a while but I liked doing business with Liverpool and I had a feeling we could make a good deal in the end.

A large part of the deal is dependent on Ajdarevic's future performances for the club, with the fee said to rise to a maximum of 10 million euros.

Meanwhile, the Reds have confirmed the signing of Argentinian left back Emiliano Insua on an 18-month loan deal from Boca Juniors.

"He is a good, young player with a lot of potential," said manager Rafael Benitez.

News of the two signings comes just a day after Benitez had complained of under-investment in talented young players at the club.

If Wenger had completed this transfer, half of the lot would be praising their academy and scouting ability

The fact is that Arsenal, Sh*tski and the scum can all outbid us for the cream of the World's talent.

Is there any wonder Rafa is having to sign relative unknowns?

Trouble is - potential isn't always fulfilled.

But the only other option is to not even try.

Top man Rafa - helping to secure our future.

How many times have we heard the term "highly rated" and turns out that they were, well to get to the point, a pile of s*i*e. Lets hope this isnt one of them.

Loads of times.

Who can forget the new Desailly and the new Zidane?  Not to mention the fact Sean Dundee was faster than Michael Owen or that Pongolle and Le Tallec were the best two young players in world football when we signed them.

Oh it was a rhetorical question was it?  Sorry.

To be fair, Benitez built Gonzales up before we signed him but you get the feeling he didn't feel right doing it as if it was putting unnecessary pressure on the lad.

Same with Sissoko when people were calling him the new Vieira, Rafa wouldn't publicly compare the two, although anyone with eyes can see Sissoko is going to go far as a footballer, who will in all honesty probably fulfil his potential and be the player he has the ability to be.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks just a bit like Paddy Berger? Maybe hes so desperate to come back hes taken a new identity. Or maybe i'm just seeing things.

yeah, i've grown weary of the 'next big thing' label too.  Until they establish themselves in the 1st team and prove it, i'm just going to assume he's another Le Tallec

Bravo Rafa!  I'm all for stocking up the squad and reserves with these young lads.  At least a couple of them are going to pan out eventually.  I fully support bringing these foreign lads through the youth system so they can settle in to the English game, instead of buying a one season wonder from Spain or Italy  who has to fill up the reserve bench waiting to figure it out in the Prem!

A lot of people on here are whinging that we bring in a lot of kids and end up shipping them out when they don't make the grade.

What would people rather we do? Stop trying & just go for tried and tested players who haven't got their whole careers in front of them & are only gonna decrease in value? Or maybe when someone flops we can just keep playing them in the hope that they come good, a la Houllier.

I'm sure other clubs bring in just as many youngsters that don't make the grade, but as we don't follow these clubs so closely we don't hear about it. Arsenal aside, I don't think anyone's got the greatest youth setup at the moment. Sh!tski have been buying youngsters left right & centre, I haven't seen any of them break into the 1st team yet. Rafa has the right idea, he's buying in a lot of youth, FFS we won the FA Youth Cup last season! My advice is wait another 2-3 years before critisising our youth system, it's a work in progress.
