I like Aurelio a lot, if he can stay injury free and get a good run of games going then he is going to show his worth. Agree with his performance, I also thought he was excellent.

Shame he can not do the same in the Prem.

Shocked to see how bad Real was, heard some good things about them in the build up to this game.

Wonder if Rafa will be their manager for the 2nd leg, now that would be a strange thing.

Dont tell me you actually think that whole rumor is true Lakes mate?  :D

you know what, the thing is so crazy i am not sure anymore.

JC just said there nothing in it.

carra's interview did'nt convince me ,

He's certainly on his Home ground in these chess match Champions League encounters. I was thinking while I was watching it that if the Premiership was played in a similar fashion, we'd win the league I reckon.

The other thing it highlighted for me, yet again, was that there is a bit of a gulf between the top Englaish teams and the top teams from other countries. I watched all of Inter Milans' game yesterday, they are p!ssing the Italian League and wouldn't get into the top four in England. I don't think this Real Madrid team would either to be honest.

Is it the last two seasons there's been three out of four of the semi finalists which have been big four English clubs? I strongly suspect that will be the case again from what I've seen so far.

Just as a footnote, I thought Fabio Aurelio was absolutely fantastic in that game, almost faultless. It was as good a display at left back against a very good right wing/right full back combo as you are ever likely to see. MOM for me by an absolute mile.

Agree with most of that Mick.

I think Barcelona are the only team outside the Premiership, that if they were in it would be pretty much guaranteed to finish in the top four.  Couldn't see anyone else being good enough over a whole season.

A knockout's a different matter, and apart from Barce, I have a sneaking suspicion Bayern will do well this year.  Can't see them winning it, but maybe semi.

Aurelio was excellent tonight.  Benayoun, Alonso and Mascherano were all on form too.  In fact, nobody was poor, Babel even did ok when he came on.

the most predictable quote of the night

is it ? oh well - shame is true thou - who is better manager in the cl than rafa ?

just a predictable quote from your ongoing love affair with the boss. pity we are so awful in the prem lately but hey thats the players. tonight it was the manager. im delighted for the club with the win but the liverpooll style of play is so far removed from where this clubs roots are that my joy is tinged with frustration that this will gloss over the need for change.
shamrock rovers and liverpool are not a matter of life and death to me. they are much more important than that.

I also like the fact that other than him we've picked our other 10 best players, plus Benayoun. Benayoun deserves to play here, he has been just about our most incisive player over these last few weeks. I've doubted him many times in the past, but credit where it's due he's absolutely playing out of his skin and deserves to start.

Good team though from the manager I think. If we do lose, I don't think it's because of that. I don't think we will though, I think we'll getn home 1-0 (Gerrard, as sub)

Do I get a prize?  :;):

Fecking Rafa  If he'd brought Stevie on earlier I'd have got the scorer as well.

Yeah its the BigMick show after all!
May I remind you that its actually not..its about LFC on here!Ya know that team with the shi'te manager! :D
So what next.? Hark? Real were poor,so were they poor or did we stop them playing from mf?
Did Rafa get it right or was we lucky?

I think Madrid were lucky to get nil tonight Baz. I thought they were over hyped but they looked a poor team. I know you can only play as well as the opposition let you , but even so I think they were poor. We on the other hand got almost everything right. Torres and Riera are a worry. Riera is out of the second leg too which may be a bit of a blow.

Well, in fairness to Whelan, it wasn't the most exciting game of football for the most part was it?

:O Fex sake  :no

I'm like a magnet on here for stalkers and fecking loonies at the moment. Baz, do me a big fat favour and leave me alone fella eh? If you can't take a post in the spirit it was intended, then it's a shame but there you go. There are plenty of people on here for you to train your ascerbic wit and sightful football analysis on, give them a go for a whil will you for once.

I had enough of it two weeks back. Now we've just won a game which is lovely, I'm feeling quite happy, so don't put me on a downer with your bullsh!t, there's a good lad.
