I've had to tolerate the ignorance of a manc ever since our boss mentioned the five cups.

- according to him, armchair manc that doesn't even watch or sometimes even follow the team, it's 2-1 because it's the "Champions League" now. Except, despite their dominance of the Premiership, they've won it only ONCE having entered it as Champions ie they didn't win the Premiership in 1997/98. So if anything it's 1-0 to them, and that after nine previous attempts as Champions to win it. Not such a great record for a team claimed by it's fans to be the "biggest and best in the world" for ages now.

- I pointed out that it was embarrassing the mancs haven't scored more goals than us, so much for their attacking prowess. He starting chirping on about leagues being decided by goal difference, missing the point entirely

I blame my boss, before she went on about European Cups he was more or less docile, could have a bit of banter. He's just having digs now, I know the difference between digs and banter, and he's become a complete d1ck - comes with being a so called manc fans I guess. I'd ask him if he's ever been to old trafford, I'm guessing not and resisting asking only because it will make him more of a d1ck and I have to work with him.


Of course the trap we don't want to fall into is our support being entirely about winning, success etc. Since that is the basis of most of their "support" worldwide, I think we should tread carefully since a lot of our fans have enjoyed relatively lean years in terms of success while their fans (I have little doubt) mainly started following football post 1992. Their fans go on about fabulous support, if they were in the lower leagues for two  or three seasons I bet they wouldn't be reading out attendances of 75k very often.

EDIT : that said, I'm sure we'd suffer a "loss" of some of our "fans" if we ever did get relegated. I bet our support from outside the UK would become more like the bitters'

A good league form in the last 8 games gave them a lot of confidence, but Robben's injury has been a very tough blow for them.

Robben is doing a very good season at Madrid and the Madrid media consider him a key player and find this injury very worrying.

To be honest he's one of the players that could us do harm, as from the right they haven't a real option and for the very little I've seen of that french guy Faubert that came from England won't be a major threat.

Sabre - what difference has Ramos made to how they play?

It's quite obvious they've become a tighter unit from looking at their results.

But what does he have them doing differently? Is it just a case of the back four making less mistakes, or the midfield helping out more? Are they just a better unit without the ball?

In my personal opinion, and that's just an interpretation, I think that what doomed Ramos at London, that is, having a dressroom united against him, is being his bless in Madrid, as he seems to have recovered the confidence of the Real Madrid dressrooom.

He has counted on Raul a lot these games and number seven has been scoring, while it was more than well known that Raul's relationship with Schuster was very deteriorated.

Tactically he plays a 4-4-2, in which the midfield couple is always going to be a strongly deffensive one, the most likely to play against us will be Gago the argie and Lass, that guy that has come from Pompey I think.

So much is the stress he puts in the defensive strenght of the midfield, that he even played Cannavaro as a holding mid when he ran out of options in the midfield position against Osasuna away.

So the media says he's like Capello, somewhat boring, and too conservative for Real Madrid's typical style, but since he's getting the results, he's getting the praises.

So the main differences are less risks attacking (less freedom for players like Ramos), a strong defensive double holding midfield, two players up front with Raul being a regular, and a more committed team that does more of an effort to recover the ball.

Pretty much like Tottenham started to play when Ramos left, Real Madrid is feeling like to work when Ramos has arrived. No master plans in 8 or 9 games, not developed tactic books, just the consequence of what happens when a quality squad starts to work, and play with order.

Hunteelar is ineligible and obviously Robbens injured and I reckon Arby and Kuyt can handle Marcelo. Faubert is not much good IMO but Lassara is a pretty good player a very good on the ball. I reckon he might start on the right.

I'd be happy with Carra watching Raul and think we have the better team provided Gerrard is back.
