Real interested in gerrard - Better stick that offer up their a$$

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby L-type » Sun Sep 12, 2004 4:21 pm

According to soccernet.com , Real's President said that he would love to add gerrard to their squad.
Now Real Madrid want Gerrard

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has identified Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as a potential galactico.
The Spanish giants made a summer swoop for Gerrard's former Anfield team-mate Michael Owen.

They also signed Newcastle centre-back Jonathan Woodgate, who teamed up with England captain David Beckham at the Bernabeu.

Now Perez has his eye on Gerrard and told the Sunday Mirror: 'Steven Gerrard is a player I really like, he is the type of player who would suit the famous shirt of Real Madrid.'

Gerrard, who scored in Liverpool's 3-0 win over West Brom at Anfield yesterday, was a summer target for Chelsea but decided to stay at Liverpool and give new boss Rafael Benitez the chance to lead the club back to the top.

At the same time, Real Madrid were failing in their bid to lure Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira to the Bernabeu.

I think that Gerrard made an extremely hard decision last summer to stay at Liverpool and coming to that decision obviously caused him a lot of heartache, so I doubt if he would leave now after all the difficulties he had in the summer.

Chelsea were prepared to pay huge money for Gerrard and given his superb start of the season I couldn't see Liverpool letting him go for less than £35m at the moment.

Real showed in their moves for Veira that they aren't too keen on breaking the bank these days so buying Gerrard would pretty much take up their entire years's transfer budget.

Another thing to be borne in mind is that now that they have three Englishmen at the club there may be a feeling among fans that they would prefer not to see another one coming.

I wouldn't be unduly worried at the moment.

I am happy to see Stevie and any other of our players linked with big clubs, here and on the continent, it means they are doing something right. Playing very well.

It only bodes well for Liverpool.

Yeah and your keep getting these reports as Real Madrid try to make fire from smoke and they will be helped by the press who just love writing about this sort of stuff.
Obviously after the Owen deal familiarty breeds contempt but you would have they would have learnt something from Viera deal..........22million , they could probably have half of him for that :D

I think he'll see how this season goes
He needs to play at the highest level and wants to win major trophey's
He'd sooner do that at liverpool but unless liverpool start to challenge the madrid's.the milans and arsenal in the premiership. He will leave. I'm just glad he's got faith in our new manager and believes things will change.
1 thing is for certain, if houlier was still here, he wouldn't be.
