BENITEZ UNSURE OVER FUTURE
SKY SPORTS WEB SITE
Friday 4th June 2004

Liverpool target Rafael Benitez has admitted that a number of clubs are keen on acquiring his services.
Benitez quit Valencia earlier this week amid speculation that he was set to take over from Gerard Houllier at Anfield.

Reports claim that Benitez will move to Liverpool when he serves his two-week notice after leaving Valencia, but the Spaniard is unsure where he will be going.

"There is interest from various clubs, but nothing more," said Benitez.

"My agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has told me there is still nothing concrete with any of those teams.

"When my agent has weighed up the offers, he'll give me his thoughts and we will decide if one of them is convincing enough."

Benitez claims his departure from Valencia had nothing to do with money.

"I have been working in a highly-paid profession for 18 years, and successfully in recent years," added Benitez.

"Money arrives, and when you are happy with your family that has no price.

"When I didn't have any money I noticed the difference between having a little and having a lot, but not between having a lot and between having an awful lot.

"The most important thing is my family."

Someone should get onto Benitez and tell him about the Wacky Warehouse in Bootle, where his family will be wee happy.

i have every confidence that he will be our next manager. it just concerns me when he talks about his family and the change in culture that will come with moving over here. that is the only small doubt in my mind. lets face it, he'd be mad to turn down this job. it's one of the biggest jobs in world football.

no body when offered a job that they are in demand for will jump at the first salary offer. He's letting it be known that he has many offers and that if  a club wants him they'll have to pay a good price. common sense.

LFC should let it be known that they are looking at a few managers.

Fair point but if he's being tipped in Italy that would also be a culture change.

p.s. if benitez does come in we should have a song to commemorate his arrival. what do you reckon?

Well, seeing as benny is the manager... lets just all whistle the benny hill song? And Gerrard and Owen can walk dead quickly round the pitch followed by a nurse and a woman in a swimsuit!

Benitez has hardly been outside of Spain, never mind his family. Liverpool - Massive culture shock. I hope he's commited for the longterm like Martin O'Neill would be.

Still I can't see why he would have resigned from Valencia unless he plans to coach in another country, and I can't see why Parry would be in Barbados unless the deal was done.

If Parry and Moores mess up and let Benitez go they are going to be under alot of pressure to get a high profile name.  O'Neill is stubborn and probabaly would turn us down if he felt he wasn't the first choice.  In fact, Alan Curbishley's name would probabaly pop up again.

Same as with the Thai investment. Moores and Perry might have to eat humble pie and re-open negotiation with Morgan.

My sentiments exactly... those irresponsible sh** heads have let too many rumours fester.. and now those crazy Thai's want to invest in Everton...too?

These two issues should have been SORTED before any sunning on the beaches!
