Rafa quoted that we scored 119 goals last season, defiantly trying to prove we play attacking football to those who doubt it.

That isn't quite as impressive as it may have seemed to Rafa, 119 goals in 59 games is just over two goals per game. It also breaks down thus :

2007/08 Goals By Competition

Premiership : 67 goals in 38 games (1.76 goals/game)
Europe : 34 goals in 14 games (2.43 goals/game)
Cups : 18 goals in 7 games (2.57 goals/game)

Our cup wins included 5-0 against Luton and 5-2 against Havant & Waterlooville. Our European campaign included an 8-0 over Besiktas and even in the league we put six past a poor Derby side. Nearly half our goals in Europe came in three games which we needed to win to go into the knockout stages (8-0 vs Besiktas, 4-1 vs Porto and 4-0 vs Marseille)

2007/08 Goals Scored

0 goals : 10 (16.95%)
1 goal : 17 (28.81%)
2 goals : 14 (23.73%)
3 goals : 6 (10.17%)
4 goals : 8 (13.56%)
5+ goals : 4 (6.78%)

0-3 goals : 63 goals in 47 games (1.34 goals/game)
4-8 goals : 56 goals in 12 games (4.67 goals/game)

Nearly half our goals came in a fifth of our games, point being we had some really good games but more lacklustre ones.

2007/08 Results By Goals Scored

0 goals : P10 W0 D5 L5 (Won 0.00%)
1 goal : P17 W5 D9 L3 (Won 29.41%)
2 goals : P14 W10 D3 L1 (Won 71.43%)
3+ goals : P18 W18 D0 L0 (Won 100.00%)

Again this season we've not scored two or more goals often enough, 21 times out of 43. To make this entirely relevant to Valencia :-

Rafa At Valencia : Results By Goals Scored

0 goals : P32 W0 D11 L21 (Won 0.00%)
1 goal : P57 W26 D19 L12 (Won 45.61%)
2 goals : P42 W32 D10 L0 (Won 76.19%)
3+ goals : P13 W13 D0 L0 (Won 100.00%)

Rafa At Liverpool : Results By Goals Scored

0 goals : P69 W0 D28 L41 (Won 0.00%)
1 goal : P73 W34 D26 L13 (Won 46.58%)
2 goals : P68 W55 D9 L4 (Won 80.88%)
3+ goals : P72 W69 D2 L1 (Won 95.83%)

Pretty consistent, games won 1-0 in the Premiership by Liverpool under Rafa are 20/44 = 45.45%, a fraction higher in the cups/Europe (14/29 = 48.28%)

Its what I been saying for long time missing out on CL for 1 season would really give us a top chance to go for the league.

Of course expect GYBS on here to tell me I am wrong and how no team in prem can go with out CL football even stoke !

None of the top 4 teams can go without CL football - the benefits far outweigh any positive you can think of - and where exactly are stoke in the League ?!?!  :no

Stoke are one point above the relegation places, which is perhaps why it is so sad that we haven't managed to beat them or score against them this season?

Our inability to beat stoke wasnt really the point being discussed.

It's not exactly new, and not exactly something Rafa alone is guilty of. We drew with Swindon and Wolves in the past and lost to Barnsley and Bradford (Premiership) We have only one 100% record and that's against WBA
