Rafael Benitez 'dreams' of returning to Liverpool

PA
Thursday, 24 March 2011

Rafael Benitez admits "it would be a dream" to manage Liverpool again in the future.

The Spaniard only left Anfield last summer and while his successor Roy Hodgson lasted barely half a season, he himself was similarly unsuccessful at Inter Milan.

Benitez admits Kenny Dalglish is currently doing an impressive job in his role as caretaker boss until the end of the season, but concedes he would jump at the chance to resume his love affair with the Kop.

"I am really proud of being the manager of Liverpool Football Club and I would like to come back in the future," Benitez told Sky Sports News.

"You never know (when) because Kenny is doing a really good job. It's a question of time. You never know in the future.

"It would be a dream. I would be really pleased to come back in the future."

Benitez revealed he would consider other offers in England but would never contemplate managing Liverpool's rivals Everton and Manchester United.

"Fans in Liverpool know the teams I would not go (to) but I think these clubs wouldn't offer me a job.

"I'm a professional but obviously some clubs I would not go to, especially the big rivals of Liverpool. I won't say the names, but it's not difficult!"

Yeah come on down Rafa !   :buttrock  :pirate  :rasp

You had to go in that route Reg... did you :D

Look, my feelings are clear, I'm happy with Kenny Dalglish, I hope he stays for long and I hope we keep it that way, however, if Rafa does return to Liverpool in the future then I'm prepared to give him another chance to show that he changed from his ways

At this point while we rebuild, I think we need a prem manager.  The CL and Europa leagues are more bonuses for me right now, consistent league performances and a top 4 finish for the next 2 seasons before I want to think about rafa.

Rafa's time has passed, whether he deserves to come back or not, all things are cyclical and his era is now history - Kenny's seen to that.

Rafa is just starting to embarress himself now.

He was great with us, but then he wasn't, now we have moved on. Why take a step backwards?

Long may KK stay with us I say

Thats a little harsh  :D

He is just really saying that he would love to come back but it wont be soon cos Kenny is doing a good job.

I really like Rafa but now that Kenny is here I have moved on.
Wish him all the best though.  (except against us).

He's certainly no rent boy.

Clearly hes keen to stay in this region personally and for his family so it may better in the short term that he pursues a career in the media and I am sure plenty will be keen to hire him. He offers something different and it keeps him involved and in the shop window. No doubt he will have chance of a good job at some point but I often wonder why some of these guys pursue it too much especially when they turn 50. With the kind of cash hes raked in I would personally sit pretty on that, do some TV work and take early retirement  :nod happy days!

Sorry but how does that article suggest Rafa is going to return?

Take about spin.

He says he wants to return, in reality he will never get offered the job. Not whilst Kenny is doing such a great job of recovery.

The papers today link us with A.Young, G.Cahill, Adam and Jarvis. All young talent ready for the premiership. Kenny knows who is a good player and he knows how to win leagues.

I think I'll stick with Kenny thanks

he's doing what he does best... sales pitch. putting himself in the news , getting his face around, selling his profile, touting for a job.

Liverpool will not take him back, NESV would not have him back and more to the point a lot of fans will not have him back.

of which Im one.

move on with Kenny.

I don't know why he's choosing now to say things like this (maybe the fact he is unemplyed has something to do with it), we're finally getting stability. Please leave us to it Rafa. I've made my feelings regarding his tenure clear to everyone on this forum so I ain't gonna repeat them in here but he shouldn't be talking about us in the manner that he is.

Good luck with whatever it is you choose to do Rafa - you're always welcome at Anfield, as a spectator  :)

Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
