I think that is open to debate mate.

Since he arrived in English football, Benitez has used 30 players in the Premier League in 2004/05(final position 5th), 24 in 2005/06(final position 3rd AND BEST POINTS TOTAL ), 29 in 2006/07(final position 3rd), 28 in 2007/08 (final position 4th) and 23 so far this season.(FINAL POSITION ?)

To be fair Saint, that stat shows that Rafa didn't trust the squad in 04/05 and that his best performing sides are the ones that he has always he maintained is the necessary requirement - 2 players in each position (24 in 05/06 and 23 in the current campaign).

The quality of some of the squad is questionable and thats where improvements need to be made for us to sustain a consistent title challenge year in, year out.

If a squad player is "questionable", surely the answer is DON'T PLAY HIM ? Then sell him and bring in someone of better quality. The fact that after 5 years we still have a squad full of questionable players is maybe a genuine concern?

parry's fault mate... :D

come on saint you've been around forever you should know better, surely... hehe :p

I don't think we have a squad full of questionable players, more like 3 or 4 which with an improvement will pay dividends. To not play that player means running others into the ground and, stating the obv, is never always possible due to injuries etc.

5 years ago, our squad was on the bones of its ar$e in terms of quality, truely dire in areas. I think the movement from that squad to the current one is vast and to do so with a monkey such as Parry doing your dealings for you (who nearly loses Gerrard by going on holiday ffs) deserves credit.

For me, Parry gone with Rafa assuming more control of dealings and the Academy is going to reap rewards for years to come. I'm genuinely excited.

Fortunately there are some exciting months of football before summer, but if Rafa has agreed a contract after that long negotiations, I interpret it as him having set the conditions to operate properly in the transfer market. So I'm really curious about how the next transfer window will be.

As are all of us I would image mate.

More news here....

KENNY DALGLISH ON RAFA'S NEW DEAL
Paul Eaton 18 March 2009

Kenny Dalglish has spoken of his delight after hearing the news that manager Rafael Benitez has signed a four year extension to his Liverpool contract.
As revealed exclusively on Liverpoolfc.tv on Wednesday evening, Benitez has put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him at Anfield until 2014.

Dalglish was thrilled to learn of the announcement and insists the timing of it couldn't have been any better.

"We've just had two great results against Real Madrid and Manchester United and now the manager - the man we all believe is the right man for the job - has signed his contract. It's fantastic news at the end of a magnificent week," Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I think the timing of this is brilliant for everyone. It allows Rafa plenty of time to prepare for next season, to identify new players he may want to bring into the club and to look at any other changes he may want to make.

"If we'd gone into the summer with his future still undecided then it would have been difficult to make those sort of plans.

"Now that it's all sorted everyone can settle down and I don't think any Liverpool fan could possibly be any happier at this moment in time.

"It's been a very positive week for everyone connected with the club, but let's hope it's just the first of a number of positive weeks before the end of the season.

"This season isn't finished yet and it's by no means a foregone conclusion that Manchester United are going to win the league. We gave them a fright at the weekend so the title race is open again, and then on Friday we'll wait to see who we draw in the Champions League. There's still lots to play for and lots to be excited about.

"As Liverpool fans, I think we're just all really happy right now that the boys are performing very well and that Rafa has ended all the speculation about his future by signing his new deal. It's great news."
