Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby god_bless_john_houlding » Fri Feb 15, 2008 3:46 am

Rafa Benitez has paid tribute to the late Bob Paisley by claiming the great man's achievements are unlikely ever to be matched.
Speaking on the 12th anniversary of Paisley's death, the Spaniard admitted his predecessor remained an influence on the club even today.

"It will be difficult for any manager to match his achievements," said Benitez. "I would like to get close!

"When I first became aware of Liverpool I heard about the size of his achievements and the quality he had as a manager, and now I am here I hear people talk about him as a person.

"He's a great influence on the club and a very important name in our history."

Paisley brought six league titles, three European Cups, one UEFA Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, three League Cups and five Charity Shields to Anfield in just nine years.

RIP Bob, never be forgotten.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

It's nice of Rafa to acknowledge the anniversary of Paisley's death, what else could he do but pay homage to the man and his achievements.

RIP Bob

just look at those achievements rafa, 6 league titles, the tournament that you think is not worth a w@nk and which you disrespect every chance you get by fielding weakened teams

I think bob paisley has to be the most successful manager in the whole of UK.

19 trophies in 9 years...and that includes 3 european cups. Even that f@ck fergie can't match paisley's record and the former is always proclaimed as the best manager ever....  :no

Anyway don't think rafa is lower our expectations dude....he is just praising paisley's record...  :)

But lets hope he gets 1 closer to paisley's record of 3 european cups this season....  :buttrock

That's sound then Lando, wouldn't want to start arguing on such a sentimental topic.

rafa_ clown, end of

as for being an embarrassment, i think that charge lies with the people trying to justify this clowns continuance as the manager of our great club

You have every right to voice your opinion chap, but this thread is a tribute to Bob Paisley. I think what Lando was getting at is that these comments are not appropriate on this thread.

This post is just ridiculous in every single sentence.

I'm not really one to condemn so blatantly, but I'll make no apology  for it either in this case.

Even though it's just an opinion, it's an opinion that sounds like a disgrace to be heard from anyone who would call themselves a Liverpool supporter.

Rafa has done things here, and won things here that command more respect than this.

Shame!

:no

As far as I am concerned, these two men both live/lived and breath Liverpool FC. They share and shared the same wants as the faithful supporters do. They are both legends in every respect of the word. Rafa has been with us almost four years and he's already tried to at least emulate the great man in one of his achievements in Europe. To even come within touching distance of it would be a achievement that any manager would be proud of. Already Rafa has done this.

Honestly, the level of diversity on these boards these days is getting ridiculous. It almost feels like it's come to the point where it's two sets of supporters that support a different team.

There was a fantastic documentary about Bob last night on the LFC channel. As well as plenty of history and stories about the great man, some of the old footage was brilliant. From the early 50s (the end of Paisley's own playing career) right up to Ronnie Whelan's extra time curler against the Mancs in the '83 League Cup final - a trophy that Bob led the team up the stairs to collect - it was just wonderful to see the career of Liverpool FC's greatest ever servant (fifty two years service) covered so well.

Anyone who missed it should keep an eye out for it on the schedules. If you haven't got the LFC tv channel, this is exactly why you should have it - it's a chance to see the history and heritage of the club, two things I think are sorely and bizarrely overlooked on here at times.

I'll try and find a link and post it later.

I've nothing against Rafa bashing but surely this thread should be dedicated to the legend of Paisley.

Imagine going out and buying a defender from Patrick Thistle (I think) for practically nothing, a medium priced midfielder from Middlesborough and a big purchase for a forward from Celtic in the space of a year (I think) , possibly the only three great scottish players of the last 30 years -sorry Nicol:)

Hansen - Souness - Dalglish - what a backbone to a team. The mid 1970s early 80s seem c*ap on TV but I'd love to have seen his teams. Ray Clemence, Phil Neal etc
