I do believe it was time for him to move on but this is still a very sad day.  I have great respect for Rafa as a manager and I always believed he had the best interests of the club at heart.  He clearly loved the supporters and the city and gave his all for the club.  He gave us so many great moments during his time and helped make us an absolute force in Europe once more.  I'm gutted he wasn't able to build on the great start he had and wish him all the best at Inter or wherever he ends up.  A top manager and a top gent.  Thanks for everything Rafa.

Mutual consent my backside, Rafa has left before he was pushed.

Thanks for everything Rafa, brother. I have always believed in you and I wish you all the success at your next club. :)

From liverpoolfc.tv

Liverpool FC today confirmed that Rafael Benitez is to leave the club by mutual consent.

Mr Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.

The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position.

No timescale has been placed on the process and Liverpool FC will make no further statement until a new manager is appointed.

LFC Chairman Martin Broughton said: "Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.''

Rafael Benitez said: "It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

be careful what you wish for, who do you thinks going to get the job. I dont think we'll get anyone permanent til the club is sold

The only permanent manager we'll be getting is one that works for next to nothing

This is :censored: awful news mate, I cant see them investing in a new manager when theyre leaving, can you?

Best of luck to Benitez and we have some terrific memories from his time here. Time was right for him and the club to make a change and whether is be Shankly or Benitez managers leave and the club always moves on.

A coincidence I am sure, but when Rafa was appointed Stevie and Carra were away at an International Tournament.....

I am sad to see Rafa go, but he had to go. At least he has gone with the dignity and class he showed for most of his time with us. Cheers Rafa YNWA
