You are right.  The law is the law.
But punishments can be determined and dished out based on intent.
Terry + intent = life Ban
Suarez - no intent = 200 hours cumminty service working in Racsim awareness.
Forum member - no intent = a stern talknig too and 48 post to diffuse the situation.

Mods had to dish out a punishment, but like Suarez, it doesnt fit the crime (or victim)

Are you saying Woof is like the FA?

Now THATS what you call an insult
Deserves a ban that Woof

A reference to race is a reference to race, they are the same by definition. References to being black tend to attract more controversy because historically it is associated with heinous crimes. Regardless, racially aggregated abuse is pointing out a feature of a person that is in no way related to the insult. Hence why civilised people are offended.

See, I'm much more offended when I'm called "retarded" then when I'm called "white". Would you seriously be offended if someone called you white?

And it is that post that justifies my retard comment.

No one said calling someone white or black was racist but you combine it with an insult and the suggestion is the recipient of the insult is the insult due to his race.

How had is that to understand?

As for Woofs neo-nazi statement, thre is some truth in that. Eastern Europe is a hot bed of racism due to the remnants of Nazi occupation, it's probably the reason you don understand whether a comment is perceived to be racist or not.

we as a club took a right kicking tonight on bbc five live. some big names in football world are sticking the knife into us fans.

we need to make it clear to all press and forums that Liverpool FC and its fans are not racist and back any action taken by the police.
but as some have said on the bbc "how can liverpool stick up for a player for saying something racist yet say what the fan did was wrong"

we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, do the club carry on and back Suarez ? its got to be the wrong thing do in the medias eyes.

now we are told video and sound picked up on what the fan said and he has been taken by the police and he will get a life ban by the club, good

but there are more and more calls for the club to be held accountable for his actions, in the words from a someone on twitter "he is a liverpool fan, he was in their ground, they sold him the seat"

i do fear the fa will take this change to have another go at the club when in fact they should come out and say well done to our players and our fans for talking to the police and for the club in helping getting this fan.

as much i've been enjoying the finer points of the debate over what is racist and what isn't i'm going to veer back towards the shít our club is getting itself into. this point is bang on the money for me;

'Liverpool's statement came after Piara Powar, executive director of European football's anti-discrimination body Fare, criticised the club. "The obvious thing for LFC today must be to come out as a club – owner, manager, captain – and start to undo some of the damage, including addressing their fans," he wrote on Twitter. "Go onto the LFC website and there is not a single expression of regret about what happened last night.

"Are LFC fans going to do this at every game, support the mistakes made by their own man [Suárez] by abusing others? 25% of PL players are black. That's a lot of players to abuse. Top clubs have unprecedented influence and power over millions of people. They should exercise that power responsibly, if they don't it's time for the authorities to step in."

he's damned right. this has been a big chance for the club to claw back a little bit of respect but we've blown it again.

Well I for one am sticking to the conspiracy theory. That bloke was clearly a United fan with a scouse accent, planted in the crowd just to try and darken our clubs great name some more. The United match is going to be even more hostile than usual, Evra will get stick and if he plays so will Suarez and a prawn sandwich munching meeting with Ferguson an Co would not have made any difference what so ever. I am fully expecting Sky and the media to have a record number of mics and cameras out for this one.

What do you think the club should say, Andy?

i don't have a specific speech in mind. however, in the face of mounting and widespread criticism across the board and an increasing degree of accusation about the club itself being racist i think a brief statement last night about taking such a regrettable incident very seriously could have worked wonders.

Well hopefully the arrest of this 20 year old from Aintree will now shed some real light on the issue and deflate media agendas and conspiracy theories

If man is found guilty then the courts can hand out a suitable punishment and the club can take action

People need to stop taking things so seriously
An individual making specific racist comments has nothing whatsoever to do with the supporters and management of this club.
Let the dirty tw@ts try and link this to LFC. Its got fu'ck all to do with us.
We need to be consistent and true. No time to panic
It happens. So what?

Fair point, although:

We take this matter extremely seriously and have today provided the Police with the evidence we currently have available to us.
