Premiership is a shambles - Do we deserve to come fourth

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

 I think its a shambles the way a team that is at the moment quiet bad will more than likely or least there a possibility they will come fourth.Could you picture us in the spanish or italian leagues. We wouldnt stand a chance of being in the top 15 the way were playin.Hence my point is the english premiership is a load of bollox.there is 2 good teams and an alrite team in chelsea in the league.Jesus theres two good teams in scotland and we all call that a cr#p league. The competition is gone stale and the premiership isnt worth what it used to be.Thinks have to change. And not just with liverpool.

I know it's you're opinion and i respect it but i have to say you're full of sh*t. Why do you think all world class player's want to play in the premiership, it is not because it is cr#p, but because it is one of...or if not, the best league in the world. It is the most exciting too, alway's played at a furious pace unlike the boring Italian and Spanish league's.

You need to get you're fact's right before coming off with stuff like that!

I don't think the Premiership is weak.

Just because Arsenal, Man UTD and Chelsea are dominating this season doesn't mean it is weak. These three teams are excellent and have DESTROYED some of the best sides in Europe this season (Arsenal's win over Inter, Chelsea's win over Lazio - both away - and UTD easily beating Stuutgart at home).

Bolton and Charlton have improved massively, and even a mid table side like Middlesboro has three England internationals, as well as top class guys like Mendieta, Zenden and Juninho.

I think it would be a sign of weakness if the top sides lost 6 or 7 games already.

Its not perfect but the Premiership is very strong, and not very far off Spain and Italy.

Some of the most in form players in Europe include Okocha and Angell, both players in mid table English sides.

The Premership is strong and very interesting.

If you look at some of the foreign players midtable sides have you can see that the Premership is a big attraction.

Besides the top two or three, the Premiership is very unpredictable. Just look at Wolves v Man U game.
The Premiership is a very good league and in no way is it getting cr#p.....better in my opinion. The fact that they allowed an extra team from the Premiership into the CL shows that UEFA believe that the English league is quality. The overall unpredictability of the Premiership a good thing (more exiting).

Yeah, those foreign players would play for bolton and villa even if they werent getting 40 grand a week.Money has nothing to do with it. It is strange though that these fantastic mid table clubs inevitably get knocked out of europe in the first round.Already this season Blackburn, man city and southampton were beaten by teams from the mighty romanian, polish and turkish leagues.English mid table clubs arent as great as some people seem to think.

I would have agreed with you a while back.  That was when I was in my I hate football period.  I found time for only Liverpool, in this time and like so many optimistic fans here I saw Liverpool in an entirely subjective way.  A few years ago I started to watch other teams and my, my was I impressed by the level that the so called bottom teams were reaching.  OK they were no Real Madrid but they knew the basic's and could play great entertaining football.  In a way that made me even more angrier about Liverpool.  I realised that if you become entrenched with a team you become totally subjective you can't see beyond them and fail to have the ability to make rational and realistis objective assessments.  My view of Liverpool was not commensurate with the reality that was unfolding before my eyes.   No longer was there only Man U to beat the whole premiership had gotten better.  It now ranks with the top leagues in the world. No matter what we think about itPremiership games are in more demand world wide than any other games, veiwing figures for the FA cup final exceed European Cup finals.  The world loves the premiership and so do I.

True enough there are some World class players in the Premiership but perhaps less of the top players than we'd like to believe. Chelski may change all that with their ridiculous spending but essentially the majority of the French and English teams is about all we can boast. We certainly lack in top Brazilian, top German, top Dutch and top Spanish players

Top players who DON'T play in the Premiership, NEVER HAVE and most probably never will :

Zidane (France)
Figo (Portugal)
Nesta (Italy)
Ronaldo (Brazil)
Kluivert (Holland)
Ortega (Argentina)
Baraja (Spain)
Denilson (Brazil)
Trezeguet (France)
Shevchenko (Ukraine)
Cannavaro (Italy)
Cafu (Brazil)
Lizarazu (France)
Canizares (Spain)
Rivaldo (Brazil)
Rosicky (Czech Rep)
Toldo (Italy)
Kezman (Yugoslavia)
Roberto Carlos (Brazil)
Thuram (France)
Vieri (Italy)
Ballack (Germany)
Raul (Spain)
Ronaldinho (Brazil)
Casillas (Spain)
Nedved (Czech Rep)
Davids (Holland)
Del Piero (Italy)
Lopez (Argentina)

They can speculate all they want that they'd like to play in the Premiership, until they do then it's just speculation. I'm sure any one of us can come up with another list of Premiership stars but the fact is most of us would like to shop in Europe for for top stars, only the top English teams have an abundance of truly class internationals

As for the Premiership being the best in the world - it is impossible to prove it one way or the other, but it is certainly very popular

The Premiership is either exceedingly strong or weak. People are arguing that it is strong and that the top three are just way better, yet only manu have even remotely competed in Europe. A number of our sides have crashed out of Europe already against not particularly strong opponents and Newcastle were dumped unceremoniously out of the Champions League at the first hurdle. Arsenal are only just finding their feet in Europe yet are very strong in the league so I find it hard to believe the Premiership is that strong. The Premiership is probably the most popular league, but many top internationals do not come to play here. People will argue that is due to money, but if the Premiership is that strong then why isn't the money and players here?

I will put it this way - top Italian and top Spanish internationals will stay in their own league as their leagues are strong, as will top English players, but where do top Brazilians, Argentinians, Dutchmen and Frenchmen go? We have most of the World Cup and European Championship winning French team minus Zidane and one or two other notable names, but perhaps not quite so many internationals from outside the top three European leagues (Italy, Spain and England)

The majority of the top Brazilian/argentian players will always play in Spain because the language, culture and weather is very similar to that in South America. Very few brazilians play and succeeed in Italy you will notice. Of course the fact that the best league in world is La liga probably has something to do with it as well.

Dav I tend to agree and if we really want to be pernickity. Serie A has the current reigning european champions so its got to be the best league in, at least Europe.
