Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Doesn’t happen enough at our club.

I have to agree it doesn't happen enough. This season I've been happy about what has been Benayoun answer when he has been given a chance. When I think of his season as a whole, I'm satisfied with the response of this player, who on paper wasn't in the starting elevens of most of us in the summer.

Arbeloa in his day also showed he could be put to play and answered well.

But we need that from people like Babel and Kuyt. Kuyt showed us at the start of the season he can play well enough to avoid the stick in newkit. He has to rise his game again because last two months haven't been good enough.

Babel will have a chance with all the Keane deblace. If he doesn't get this new chance, I'd think of offloading him as soon as possible.

Ian Rush' quote is spot on.

Someone on RAWK has said he heard this is the starting lineup:

                     Reina

Arbeloa       Hyypia        Skyrtel         Aurelio

Kuyt           CARRAGHER       Mascherano          Babel

                            Benayoun

                           NGOG

Possible that Alonso's injured, Torres fatigued/ injured. I suppose it may be a 5-3-1-1!

Not sure what our subs bench will look like! We might need Voronin and Nemeth back ASAP.

They usually have it somewhat wrong so early, someone else posted a different lineup so who knows what we will get out there.  It's anyones guess with all the injuries we have.  I hope some kids get a run out though.

It wouldn't be the first time that Carraguer is used in the holding midfielder position, it did happen in previous seasons when we had that many injuries that Carraguer was the only option.

Needless to say, I don't find that option ideal, but if Alonso is out due to injury, and Gerrard is out, there are not many options. You could play Mascherano and Benayoun, you could play Mascherano Plessis, and you could play Mascherano Carraguer.

If the latter option is selected then Mascherano will be asked more tasks than the one of destruction. And if he's asked to do that, I'll be fine, because he might not have a great range shot, but he knows what he does with his passing.

As for Ngog, if that line up is true, it would confirm the reluctancy of Rafa to try a couple of options this season. One would be playing Gerrard in the right, which he has been avoiding and I don't know why. The other would be to test Babel as a support striker or upfront man.

I'm not sure Babel would do a good striker, but I'm not sure Ngog will improve that. But the lad is still young, let's see what happens, perhaps his true game is somewhere in between the praises he got in the summer and the awful performances earlier in the season.

P.S. That line up would also confirm that deeming Keane unnecesary in this team is wrong. If Ngog starts scoring regularly I'll shut up and will be happy for the lad, but on paper the Keane case baffles me.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing us play with whatever formation and players we'll have out there?  Should be fun I think we'll have them locked down defensively so it is still our game to win.

Bav I gave up on FF aaaages ago :D
All round the fields of Anfield Road

Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Kenny Dalglish 1/2/2011
