pongolle has just recently started being more involved in the first team. getting rid of him in january, when we have a massive fixture congestion in three competitions would make no sense at all.

but mick surely it wouldnt be too bad sense if we replaced him with a better one? i dont get how keeping him and not getting a better striker is advantageous to us.

my point was that it would be more advantageous to offer different players in exchange instead of sinama pongolle. say you negotiate that swap and anelka comes in and gets injured in his first game and you're back to square one again.

i see your point now. i thought you were saying that we were best keeping pongo rather than go for anelka. saying that, the situation you propose i'd still be willing to go for. the reason it was so bad when Baros was injured was cos we "had no strikers", even though we knew we had Mellor and Pongolle. in that same situation, but with anelka iinstead of pongolle we wouldnt find ourselves saying "we have no strikers" cos we'd have anelka. and he's more than capable of leading the line in my opinion.
i see what you're saying now but i'd be prepared to take the plunge. its not even as if we're swapping a striker for a striker, becoz as i've just pointed out, we didnt even consider Pongolle a striker anyway.

Sinama Pongolle is one of our bright stars for the future, it would be silly to ship him off. I still think he should get more chances than he is getting at the moment, he has the skill to turn a game around, very tricky player to keep under wraps.

he played one decent game in the champions league,that hardly makes him a world beater, he's to small to lightweight and dosen't have what it takes to become a regular in the liverpool side.we have put up with second best, and player's with "potential" for to long, pongolle is not in the same class as anelka or morientes,and never will be.no matter what it takes, we should make sure we make every effort to sign both of our main targets in january.and if that means exchanging one of our players with "potential", then so be it. the time as now come when liverpool f.c.must buy only proven top class player's.for to long have we suffered watching our clubs decline because of poor judgement and bad buys. 

Can you point out were i said he was a world beater? No, because i didnt...but i do believe he can be.

Anyway, hes still young and has loads of potential. He will be a future great in my opinion. Your saying hes too small and lightweight...ill just say two words, Michael Owen!

Put it into perspective:

He has more skill than Michael ever did, id say hes stronger than Owen when he was at his age...you used to see Owen getting shoved and bullied all over the place, you dont really see that with Pongolle, well to a lesser extent anyway, he has more fight than Owen...it shows when hes winning headers against far taller players and hes like 5ft f*ck all...and he has just as much pace and Michael made it big with us. The only thing Pongolle is lacking at this moment in time is finishing and experience, but that will come with proper coaching and experience on the field.

He should be givin more oportunities as hes soring confidence, in my opinion a player that isnt afraid to run at defenders with that kind of trickery and pace who is filled or rather overflowing with confidence NEEDS to be played, he will reak havoc on any defence...

Yeah, ponggole is doing well.  But Anelka is different class. I mean can you believe a Anelka & Baros striker force ?

Plus I can't think of 2 more moody and outspoken forwards in the Prem 

Getting rid of Pongo as makeweight leaves us in the same position as before ( in terms of number of forwards) except we might be £12 Million lighter 


I say get Morientess for the reputed £8 Million and keep Pongo to boot. Whats the point in lightening the staff at LFC when we are down to the bare bones as it is ?

get real!!!!!!!!!!!!! for christ sake. your talkin about pongolle being in the same class as owen at the same age? don't think so,owen was probably at his best then.if were going to have an argument at least talk sense>

Let's not forget that Pongolle hasn't been averse to a bit of a winge to the papers about his club.

It's a tricky one for me - to get both Anelka and Morientes I'd guess that we'd then have nothing left to strengthen areas like the wings and maybe CB, so I'd expect tough decisions to be taken to make everything happen. I really like Pongolle, and have bemoaned his lack of opportunities before, but it's an argument of class at the expense of potential, and that's really a no-brainer so long as the price is right.

I dissagree with your opinion on Pongolle, do you see me running my mouth and being a cheeky ****** towards you? Nope, The reason being because i respect your opinion of him and can understand were your coming from on your judgment on the lad.

I still believe that if Pongolle can sort his finshing out and became deadly in regards to that, that he will be a better player than Owen. Im not necessarily saying Pongolle is or was better than Owen, just that i think he can be.

If this speculation is true I think its a good deal depending how much they want in cash. Whilst Sinama does have potential, its only really manifested itself over the last month or so. If you look at the picture overall hes had minimal impact at Liverpool. I am sure Benitez would love to wait for players to mature but we need results now so its a very tough call. If we look at it in real time Anelka for Sinama is a good deal. The fact is that Anelka is currently a better player than Pongolle. No one knows how the deal will look in the future and I would prefer to live in the here and now and go for Anelka if the cash plus is right.

Of course hes had minimal impact, Houllier never played him!

Whereas Benitez is giving him chances and hes playing well when givin them, ive said it before and ill say it again, if he sorts his finishing out we have a quality player in our hands.

To be fair he has not played as a regular under Benitez and thats without Cisse. Once Cisse is fit he will be third or fourth choice striker. Anelka would seriously challenge our main two for a start.

I think that from Benitez' and Mellor's comments lately this season is Neil's last chance to "realise the dream" as Mellor says himself.

People can say what they want about Mellor, but his talk about his dream of making it at the club would put the likes of Diouff, Collymore, Babb etc to shame.
