Players that bomb

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

In the total opposite of what Sabre has started which players that you initally rated and thought would become great players ended up letting you down so to say .

Baros- Started off great , scored a fair number of goals went to euro 2004 and was superb for the czechs but just never seemed to kick on .

Speedy - Looked great in La Liga , pace to burn with a decent shot on him and could easily take on a man , scored early on but never ever fullfilled any potential he seemed to have

Dudek - Looked a rock at first and was outstanding when first arrived then couple of errors just seemed to suck any ability and confidence out of him , played a blinder in the 05 final but that was more of a one off.

I'd seen a bit, wasn't particularly impressed. The lad came with a reputation though, so remained open minded. Decent first season, woefull second

Can ya tell what it is yet?

You must have expected someone to mention him surely. I'm not debating his quality or lack of. You asked a question and all I did was answer honestly

Most obvious recent one would be Morientes, was made up when we signed him, thought he would be a top player for us at a good time in his career.

Major disappointment he was.

Well when a prolific striker comes and instead you get a rather poor right sided midfielder with a melting face then your bound to be a little disappointed

With Morientis i didnt expect much of him first season cause he had played hardly any football in the months before we signed him in jan but thought after a full pre season he would be on fire - shame as still like the guy and when he went back to valencia him and villa were on fire - the prem just wasnt suited for him or vice versa

Le Tallec was hyped up to the skies when we signed him.  Completely disappeared off the radar now, Juventus was his finest hour, and that will probably be the high point of his career, unless he develops into the player Houllier saw him becoming (he's now in his early twenties).

I'm pleased to see Pongolle doing well for himself but a part of me wishes that we should have waited at least a year or two longer.  Particularly because we signed Voronin albeit on a free and didn't get much dough for Pongolle.  The lad looks like an athlete now, he's put some muscle on and scores regularly, plus he's just been capped by France.

Also, didn't Alou Diarra play in the 2006 World Cup final for France coming on as a substitute?  Fair enough, that French manager is a bit barking mad (Domenach) but a player must have some pedigree if he shows up in the biggest showpiece game there is...?  Diarra couldn't have been THAT shit surely?

Morientes,
Collymore,
Anelka,
Michael Thomas,
Lucas,
Calamity,
Westerveld,
Scott Carson,
All The French Lads Bar None,
90% of rafa´s early buys from Spain,

etc.. etc.. etc..

Its easier to do it Sabres way and mention the good ones !!
