Player of the season so far - Interesting point!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby ICE-MAN » Sat Mar 25, 2006 1:01 pm

I know theres still a fair few games to play until the end of the season! But i was having a discussion with a few mates last night about Liverpools best player this term!

Its brilliant to see that we dont rely on Gerrard as much as we used to, he is still massively important to us dont get me wrong, but he is not the run-away leader of the player of the season poll in my view, but thats not to say he isnt having a fantastic season, its just that other players are finally stepping up and being counted in their consistent performances this season!

Carra- another great season and at the heart of our clean sheets record!

Alonso- great season, very important getting us to tick and keeping the play flowing, very consistent

Gerrard- loads of goals and all action displays, rarely has a bad game

Sissoko- definitely young player of the year, we missed him a lot when he got injured, he does all the donkey work and never stops fighting to get possession back!

Kewell- not a leading contender for Player of the Year but has definitely improved a LOT this season and shud be commended for getting his act together, still more to come as well i feel!

Finnan- in my opinion player of the year so far, has really taken his game to another level and is relied upon a lot more for his consistency and hard work, players such as carra have come out n said how important he is to the team, a real unsung hero, just gets on with the job and very seldom lets his man get the better of him!

Would just like a few thoughts and opinions regarding this matter, but I think rafa and his backroom team shud get a special mention for improving the form and consistency of certain players as well!  :buttrock

Steven Gerrard - by far and away the biggest contribution to our season this year.

Most improved - Harry Kewell, but he had a lot of improving to do.

Agree that Finnan and Carra have been super solid. You should also include Pepe Reina in there - he has been immense. It gives a defence huge confidence when they know they can trust their keeper.

My player of the season has to be finnan.... He has been awesome this season....

Carra hasn't been as awesome as last season...but he's still the best english centreback IMO. So he gets runners-up.

I think Kewell has been excellent this season, just shows what a bit of faith and a run in the team can do for a player (wonder if Cisse will be given such a chance....might he improve as much as kewell next season?)
Anyway, as boring as it is I think Gerrard has been our best player again this season so far although the point that other's have stepped up is very true. Alonso, Carra, Finnan, Hyppia, Reina, Hamman when asked have all been excellent.

it has to be Harry Kewell.

1.- Gerrard.

2.- Alonso, the second season of a player that has been a "revolution" the first one, isn't easy for some reason I'm not sure of, but I've seen happening often. He keeps growing and has a long career in front of him.

3.- Finnan. The RB debate is over, he has won the place.

Reina also deserves some praise but I myself would go with Carragher.

Finnan and Kewell wins most improved.

Kewell would get the most improved player....But to win the player of the season is ........pushing it a little.....

Maybe he will get it next season  :D

Traore has been immense when picked

his positional play and calmness on the ball reminds me of Maldini at his best

with a few more games we would have conceded even less

Our best player has been the player of the season. My suspicion is that while he remains a Liverpool player it will be forever thus. He is the best right-sided midfielder in the Premiership by a distance, despite the fact that he is percieved by most to be a central midfielder. He just happens to be the best central midfielder aswell. Were he to play regularly there, I honestly believe he could be the best right back aswell.
That people debate the issue just indicates that we all take him for granted sometimes. Enjoy him though because you are watching one of the Liverpool greats of this or any other era.
Thank God for Steven Gerrard, even though he was a bit of a numpty today.
