Pick of the bunch - Selecting and setting up a first xi if..

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby ConnO'var » Mon Jul 16, 2007 9:36 pm

Right now I'm sitting in a Hotel Room in Nantes, bored out of my mind and I thought what if.....

You could pick any player and use any formation from the CURRENT available squads of LFC, the Mancs, CFC and the Gooners?

Who would you pick and how would you set them up?

This is how I see it in a 4-5-1....

                       Cech
Finnan         Carra     Terry        Heinze

            Stevie   Xabi      Masch
Ronaldo                                   Torres
                      Drogba

6 out of 11 Liverpool players would make the squad.
(7 if we get Heinze.... :D )

In a 4-4-2....

                        Cech

Finnan        Carra       Terry       Heinze

Ronaldo      Stevie      Essien      Robben

                 Drogba     Torres

(4 out of 11)

In a 3-5-2 (or 5-3-2).....

                         Cech
            Carra      Terry      Toure

Eboue                                          Cole
            Stevie      Xabi      Masch

                    Drogba   Torres

Just curious what would you lot do?

Generally I agree with your selections although they are ever so slightly biased towards Liverpool  :D  :D  :D

I've notice that Torres is in every line-up without ever kicking a ball in the Premiership. Personally, I think that Kuyt will eclipse Torres this season after his "bedding in" year.

Only hoping that he'll adapt, Neil.... I've seen him in action for a few full games and he's always impressed me. Only question for me is.... can he adapt to the premiership.....

S'why I picked him...

trying to be unbiased 4-4-2
reina
finnan
carra
agger
riise
gerrard
alonso
mascherano
babel
crouch
torres
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

hahaha, great unbiased team there. But seriously, i would have to go

                 Cech

Neville   Carra   Terry   Vidic

Ronaldo  Essien  Gerrard  Giggs

            Drogba   Torres/Tevez

I think Torres or Tevez are really going to shine. Maybe both. I could only pick 2 lfc players but i am going mainly on last seasons form. If not torres or tevez i don't think another striker stood out. Though on the bench i would have

Van de Sar
Scholes
Masch
Xabi
Kewell (really think he will be a super sub this yr)
Rooney
Rio

So quite a few lifc on the bench. Thats how close i think we are to winning though. Close but close enough? maybe. I will update after 10 matches and see who is goign well

The first thing I noticed there is there's no Nani or Anderson in any of these sides! :D not that I think they're great cos I've never really watched them enoughand generally I agree with ConnO'var on this one.

I must disagree with weringo though, Drogba and Rooney would not be my first choice strikers.
Drogba's a cert but I'd rather have Torres for the same reasons already given

Kewell on the left RedorDead? I wouldn't think he would make our 1st 11. Better then robben or giggs?

How could you, Babu?
The term positive and Neville are like oil and water, mate.....

Unless of course if it's you used like this "Neville is positively a tw@t".....

I'm surprised you didn't include in the entire squad for the bench as well!

I was feeling a lack of Liverpool players at that point, Giggs is the best in that position for sure but he is getting old, Robben and Kewell is close I think, both have huge potential but have suffered with injury the last season or two....I will stick with Kewell safe in the knowledge that while it is a biased choice it is also not an entirely bad one.
