Can you tell me, why we would play Crouch? We have a 4-2-3-1 formation. ONE striker. And Torres is obviously a much better choice than Crouch. Kuyt is very useful on the wings, Riise is a very good rightback, as is Aurelio at times.

No...I'm saying they should play up together.

Crouch has to play. In recent years we've beaten Arsenal, United and Chelsea...all aided by Peter Crouch. Hattrick against Arsenal. Goal against United in the cup and a goal against Chelsea in the charity shield. Nobody else in the squad has got that kind of record under Benitez. Last year Crouch was our leading scorer in the champions league and took us to the final were he was dropped...great masterplan. Crouch has shown on numerous occasions that when he plays he warrants a regular place in the side. Even if he doesn't score (which some seem very keen on pointing out) he causes havoc for the opposing defenders. He didn't score in last year's champions league final (which will no doubt go down as one of the 99 where he hasn't scored, despite him coming off the bench in that game...AGAIN) so even though he didn't score, he took three shots, caused their keeper into a world class save from nearly 30 yards out and even the goal we did score through Kuyt came off a Peter Crouch header.

He HAS to play.

Fair enough Owzat, name the competitive games that Crouch has started that he has failed in.

The reason he hasnt scored against these sides invariably is because he hasnt been selected.

Doesnt the goal to knock united out of the FA cup and the hat-trick against Arsenal prove that he IS capable against the bigger sides if he is given a chance ?

No it doesn't ace.

The fact it took Gallas and Toure to have probably the worst game in there Career at the same time allowed Crouch to score that hatrick. Yes he was good enough to take advantage of that, but that doesn't make him a class player.

He's a decent player who played well and caught those two on a very bad day. Against all of the top sides he gets marked out of games and completely fails to influence games. He's not mobile enough or strong enough and doesn't have enough game intelligence to really be considered a top class player.

I find it quite laughable that people only ever look at the positives and our own players rather than the rest of the league. No-one seems to use the other teams as a bench mark and thats the hole problem with our "support". They are too blind to see the truth about some of our own.

The only players in our team that would get near the other top sides are Gerrard, Torres, Reina and you cuold possibly have a case for Alonso (at his best) and Mascherano. The rest wouldn't get a sniff.

He can't score against Brazil if he's playing against Jamaica can he? Croatia topped England's group for qualification to Euro 2008 yet Crouch managed to score against them. Also he scored three against Jamacia...I don't recall Owen, Rooney, Torres, Villa, Kaka, Ronaladino, Henry or Anelka getting a hattrick against Jamacia for their repesctive countries. Crouch has never let England down and if Crouch didn't score against these "naff sides" England wouldn't of been even in a chance of qualifying. Scoring against "naff sides" is just as important as scoring as against top sides.

Those same players never scored record goals in qualifiers, does that make Healy better than them........?

Did you consider that top strikers don't need to fill their boots against weak sides to prove themselves? And congratulations for identifying the ONE decent side Crouch has scored against in a COMPETITIVE match. Is that the same Croatia Rooney scored two against in Euro 2004? You left out his brace against Andorra, strikers scoring goals against them must be impressing you all the time. So which one's who've scored plenty of goals against the same opposition as Crouch do you want to sign? I'm guessing none, because your argument is weak as water.

Stu, i dont think he is top class or world class or whatever you want to put it.
But he should of been playing this season as behind Torres he is by far the biggest goal threat.
Like i said if Rafa moves him on at the end of the season it wont exactly be the end of the world, but we better be bringing in another top striker if thats the case.
