Favouritism. All managers have their favourites e.g Morientes over Cisse.

No, everyone can clearly see that Morientes is a better footballer than Cisse.

When Morientes goes through games not scoring, everyone calls for Cisse to start then straight away when Cisse f.ucks up like for example against Man U when he missed from right under the goal, when he was clean thorugh with all the time in the world and yet blasted it straight at the kepper (can't remember who this was against) everyone's saying drop Cisse and calling for Morientes again.

I'm not saying that Morientes is a worse footballer than Cisse, Moro is miles better than Cisse. I'm just saying that Benitez like every manager has his favourites. He's obviously more likely to play the players he's signed than one's signed by the previous manager ala Mr Houllier of Lyon.

Even so Oasis, If I was manager with both the reina - dudek and morientes - cisse situations, I would play Reina and Morientes and I'm sure many others would. It can't be said that Morientes is played out of favouritism because maybe if Cisse was better than Morientes there is a case but the fact is he's not so it would make no sense whatsoever playing the worse option.

i never trusted Dudek after gifting Forlan of all people two goals when we played them. But i am one to forgive, and forgive i did on May 25th.

However, Reina has done a bloody good job so far, he made one mistake which was reacting to that clown Robben, but tempers were high and we had no chance of winning the match, i personally would have made sure that tart didn't get up....but back to the point, Reina has proved he is consistent, he can make great saves also (don't forget the clean sheet record we broke?) and Dudek, although i think he did well when Reina was suspended, didn't do enough to warrant a place in the 1st team.

Its sad to see really, if he could be allowed to go on loan would have been alot nicer for him and his world cup ambitions, but what can u do?

You have not provided any justification/points or anything. Others posters in this thread have at least tried to explain and justify their point of view. yours is simply that Jersey made some spectactular saves in the ECL final (thank you dudek). If you ask me that just doesn't cut the mustard.

Point taken, but could do without the numpty bit! I agree with previous poster who said jerzy was excellent prior to getting the jitters that affected his confidence, thus affecting his performances! However, I think jerzy was a great shot-stopper and had excellent reflexes, second to none!! I must admit that I don't like Pepe punching the ball away and I have raised an eyebrow at one or two goals he has conceded, thinking that Jerzy would have got to that! If ya follow... Again I think Pepe is an excellent keeper, I just question is he so much better than Dudek, that Dudek cannot get a look in? Jerzey had a couple of excellent seasons with us, and let's be honest, had we had Pepe in goal in Istanbul, I don't think he'd have kept out Shevshenko's double effort... Might be immaterial now, but worth considering by those who want to send Jerzy down the same road as James etc..

Jerzey had a couple of excellent seasons with us, and let's be honest, had we had Pepe in goal in Istanbul, I don't think he'd have kept out Shevshenko's double effort...

No disrespect mate but there's a couple of points I have trouble with...

1) Jerzy did get a look in recently while Reina was suspended and, while he did pretty well, I for one was glad to see Pepe come back into the side.  I mean, it's not as though Dudek had a couple of blinders and gave Rafa a real selection problem, right?

2) Your doubts about Pepe's chances against Shevchenko in Istanbul are wide of the mark for me.  Maybe you're right - maybe Reina wouldn't have made those saves.  But, would Jerzy be able to pull off that double save again?  No chance.  Which means that it wasn't about shot-stopping technique...it was down to pure, dumb luck.  I'll always love Jerzy for that moment and for his heroics in the shootout but I can't see using that double save as the criteria for judging which keeper's better.

Reina fills the back line with confidence, let's them play higher up the field with his sweeping abilities, commands his area and distributes the ball smartly.  Plus, he's young and new to the League.  How good will he be once he really settles?
