Pennant improving?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

How the hell did JP miss out on the latest England squad? ???? For me he has been excellent ever since the turn of the year. Been turning in 7s, 8s with the occasional 9 ever since. Has got his confidence back and along with Mascherano i'd say he was our best player in the two biggest games of the season against Chelsea and Milan. I'm really not wiorried about the right hand side anymore and i'm surprised at those who still claim Pennant is not good enough to be part of a title winning team.

I still consider the right side a problem area, especially when at times Gerrard was forced back there due to a lack of solidity and consistency shown by Pennant in the early stages of the season, particularly away from home.

I think Rafa will bring in a right mid in the summer, one who will push Pennant even further.

I think Pennant has done well, but that extra level up in quality would be healthy for the competitiveness of the squad IMO.

pennant has been our best buy this season.... kuyt was good at times and played his heart off whenever chosen but that wasnt enough ...
he(pennant) was shaky at the start of the season but so were all our other big players .... just needed some time to settle ... but once he got going... he became our best player...
i was worried about the right side too... but after seeing pennant perform the way he did the last 2 to 3 months of the season... i can now say that pennant COULD and SHOULD start in that right wing next season as we obviusly have other departments where we need to invest...
if we do sign a player like owen or torres or even villa... i think pennant will be a very important player for us in seasons to come..

also... daniel alves is a brilliant right back... id be very dissapointed if rafa gets him and plays him as a midfielder... he can obviously do the job there but having him as a right back would provide much more width and overall ability in the team... he is probably the best player in the spanish league this season... the best in the uefa... a brilliant right back with wonderful abilities but not all right bcks with skills should be made into midfieders...

pennant = second best player for liverpool this year after carra.

i wouldn't go as far as saying he was 2nd best after carra this season....surely Reina, finnan mascherano(started playing for us about the same time pennant did :D  ) are worth a shout too. Even tho Alonso and gerrard didn't have their usual high quality seasons they still did well.

Pennant would be more effective when he has more creative players around him i reckon, which hopefully we will get this summer. have been impressed with him recently....but still needs improvement and consistancy.

I thought he did real well and won the ball a few times high up the field. Showed good promise and ran at the defenders with speed and was irrational.
His passing is improving and his confidence seems to be improving.

I only wish his final ball/crossing could be a bit better even if he did find Gerrard a few times and it's not easy to find Kuyt alone when nesta and maldini is on watch.

Miles better than Zenden(which goes without saying)

yes he has improved but still not good enough.  We are not rewarding a player for a spot in the starting line-up because he has been improving, we need someone who can do the job, we are not a football clinic that helps individual players to improve their game by playing them.

I actually thought he was a tad disappointing in the Champions League final given the amount of posession and opportunity he had, particularly in the first half. He was free for practically the whole of the frst period, due largely in my opinion to a shrewd tactical set-up by Rafa. His attempted cut back to Gerrard in the first half where he inexplicably chose to chip the ball thigh high to the onrushing captains left foot when all he had to do was roll it in front of him onto his right stoodout as a pivotal moment at the time, and a costly one in the aftermath. Such moments of obvious lack of big game experience ultimately cost us the game.

Pennant is improving , of course. His display against cheatski and Milan was very good. What we should do is get another good if not excellent right winger just to make sure he has to compete for the slot. And by doing that, i'm sure he'll get better and better....

I also think the lad is improving on the end of the season. I'm ok that his debut was awful, but I think he's now settling.

Very good match against Chavsky, quite good against Milan, but lack of precise crosses or passes.

Could be great for next season, but a new RW to push him a little would be interessant!

Well said, there is still along way to go for most of our players.
