GERRARD GETS ONE OVER BARCA STAR
Jimmy Rice 19 January 2007
Steven Gerrard has seen off stiff competition from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to make it into the uefa.com Team of the Year.
The Liverpool skipper was voted Europe's best right-winger by football fans across the continent.

Almost four million votes were cast by uefa.com users, with three Premiership stars making the final cut.

The team in full is:

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
Gianluca Zambrotta (Barcelona)
Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid)
Carles Puyol (Barcelona)
Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Kaká (AC Milan)
Ronaldinho (Barcelona)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona)

Well done for everyone who voted, he to rightly deserved that crown as the best right mid last year in europe :) shame he wasn't able to be voteable in central midfield but still well deserved :)

Very much deserved.

Suprising, but deserved none-the-less.

I'd have thought the clueless benders would have triumphed and had Fat Frank in the team. :D

To be honest I never cared much about this massive polls

Steven Gerrard has seen off stiff competition from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to make it into the uefa.com Team of the Year.

Of course he has! Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have to show a lot of things during a lot of seasons to compare to Stevie!

I don't like this kind of polls because people tend to favour showy things rather than actual overall football quality.

Ronaldinho would always beat Gerrard in a google fight or a UEFA poll, because he does tricks that appear in highlights. But if you made a poll among the coaches of Europe to ask them who they'd bring to their team, I do think Stevie might beat ROnaldinho. Quite simply, he provides more things to a team, although his compilation videos won't be as nice to watch.

Anyway it's always good to hear this kind of news.

Probably why Cesc is in there over Xabi.
