A Liverpool source told ESPN: "To be fair to Brendan he was asked at a press conference whether he would consider Michael Owen and he said he would consider everybody. He didn't slap it down. However, the next day, the media virtually suggested the club were signing Owen.

"Having given the issue some thought, for the moment, the club are not bringing anyone in. There is no one on the agenda although, of course, that could change, but there is nothing doing at the moment."

There are some experienced players available, but there is a reason they are available free. I'd personally like to see us bring someone in, but I could live with the status quo until January, I suppose.

January though will be critical I think for a player like Agger to re-sign - he'll need to see a statement of intent I imagine.

Have to say, lakes always does a scatter-gun approach with his rumours at a ratio of 10:1 (which logically would give him much better odds at getting one rumour right), yet he still always fails miserably to get any of them right.
