Bet he won't play.  Regardless of Real Madrids interest, if hes stalling over his contract, Liverpool aren't going to risk having him cup tied as this would devalue him.

Yeah, Real said they only interested in Veira and not Owen but Barcelona is said to be making an 18million pound straight cash bid for Owen.

"The England international has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish giants this week, with some reports even suggesting a deal could be struck before the start of the new season.

However, when asked about this possibility, Real assistant sporting director Emilio Butragueno said: "Only Patrick Vieira interests us at the moment.”

However, there is also a growing opinion that Barcelona are set to make a straight cash offer of around £18million for Owen, whose participation in the Reds Champions League game tonight may offer the biggest clue of whether or not his future remains on Merseyside."

Owen supported Everton as a youngster.  Lineker was his favourite player.....so even though hes given Liverpool great service, he wasn't born into a family that dreamt he'd wear the red shirt.

Anyway, I hope Cisse and Baros both score tonight as it might give Owen the kick up the ****** he needs.

Maybe Owen hasn't got the balls to challenge Baros, Cisse and Pongolle for a place in the team ?

In my opinion Michael Owen has been giving serious thought to departing for a long time. He rates himself extremly highly and has clearly stated that his ambition comes before loyalty to the club.

Michael says that contract talks have only recently begun, that there has only been 4-5 meetings. In reality there has been talk of a new contract for months and months. Again and again he has been evasive and refused to commit himself to the club.

He did not shine in Euro 2004 and following that there has been relatively little interest in him. I think he has been waiting and hoping for a big name club to start showing interest. If I was a club looking for a striker I would certainly think he could be lured from Liverpool after watching his actions.

Dont get me wrong. I rate him highly. To average more than 1 goal in 2 matches for 6 of the last 7 seasons speaks for itself. If he goes I think 10 million undervalues him. 18-20 at least.

I want him to stay. BUT I do feel he has messed us about. I think he has kept us hanging no matter what he says.

At least we'll have a decision soon.

liverpools bid for alonso is the club saying we are geting new players in and it might just sway michael to stay but if he goes its verry tempting 10 million and morientes but i would not believe what you hear in the press owens agent said today no deal has been made with owen and madrid, ps we wont miss michael until he has gone its best for the club if he puts pen to paper because cisse needs owen in his first season at the club.
