The reason why I want Kuyt to start the games is to run the opposite team ragged and then bring on the fresh legs of Babel.

I believe Ryan Babel will be a really important player for us this season.

He's got to start shedding the super sub title and perform and score a goal or two when he plays , last night i thought he was good and should get another start against stoke this week , he's pace will give their defense something to worry about

just had a complete mare for the reserves in giving a goal away. miles away from being ready for the first team yet.

Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Agger Dossena

Gerrard Alonso Mascherano Riera

           Keane Torres

On paper this is our best team in my opinion, and would be suited against difficult opposition. In practice I doubt very much that Benitez would ever field this team however

Similar to the above...

               Torres         Keane
Riera     Mascherano     Alonso      Gerrard
Aurelio     Hyypia        Carragher   Arbeloa
                       Reina

Just slight changes to the defence. Need a right back desperately and a top centre half then I think we'd be in business with that side. Really do.

two keepers and Reina up top on his own are radical changes IMO      :D

It gets better. :D

4-4-2 was the stock-standard from the 80s through the 90s, but how many teams, title-winning teams at that, have actually used it regularly in recent years? Spain is the only one I can think of at the elite level. 4-4-2 ain't really that prevalent these days in the big leagues. Not saying that's why we shouldn't use it, just pointing it out.

United played a 4-3-3ish system last year; Chelsea of course always did under Mourinho. Real Madrid also used it extensively last season, 4-1-3-2 being the next favoured option; Barca also a 4-3-3 team, for better or worse. Inter were one who used to use 4-4-2 a lot but have changed over the last two seasons, using something like 4-3-1-2 more often.

Personally, I'd use 4-4-2 if Gerrard would eat his ego and play properly on the right (and if Riera does the job on the left).

I love Keano but don't think he should start...

                      Reina

           Carragher     Skrtel
Arbeloa                            Aurelio

         Alonso      Mascherano

Babel                                Riera
                Gerrard

                Torres

I'm still not sure whether Agger or Skrtel should play, Agger is a really good player but Skrtel is 1 of those no nonsense lads. I'm looking forward to seeing Degen play at right back but Arbeloa is good all round. I left Keane and Kuyt because Keane isn't playing that well in the team (at the moment) despite playing excellent against United. I think he will become important to the team though. Kuyt is an excellent worker but i just hate the way he is played out of position, my bench would be as follows:

Cavalieri, Agger, Dossena, Keane, Ngog, Lucas, Hyypia
