Our kids - Any of them good enough for next season?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Obviously everyone's aware we won the FA Youth Cup this year.

I've seen quite a bit of the youth team this season, and I've been very impressed.

Are there any youth players you'd like to see in the first team squad next season? Personally I'd like to see more of Anderson, and maybe Hobbs, but I can't see the latter breaking into our back four just yet.

Anyone else you think I've missed out?

Must admit that I've not seen any of the kids in action..... as you might expect, they don't show youth games here being so far from merseyside.....

Have heard good things from mates at home bout the 2 spanish kids though..... can't remember their names.....
You guys have more info on them? Names, positions age etc...

Do you mean Barragan & Roque?

Barragan plays RB, and Roque CB. Not Sure how old they are.

Both have looked pretty impressive, especially Roque.

Agree on Anderson, but Hobbs needs a little more time in the U19s/Reserves. Antwi and Roque have both impressed me and deserve a couple of cameos and cup inclusions.

Can't see these guys coming in next year apart from the odd Carling Cup game. I have watched the Youth team a few times and there is no doubt that we have some real quality coming through. However; our 1st team squad is so strong (and will only get stronger in the summer) that I can see these youngsters limited in terms of opportunities next season. Clearly the Rafalution has seen a massive investment in youth and he will look to progress these players (Anderson, Antwi, Hobbs etc) through the ranks but not in 2006/2007.

I think we'll get to see a few of these guys in the pre-season.  Especially with most of the senior players reporting back late this summer after world cup duty.  From what I've seen Antwi has the physical presence to cope with making the step-up sooner than some of the others.  Likewise Anderson has the pace which sets him apart and he could maybe cope with the step-up soon.  A few of the others are good players too but I think next season is too soon for them.

I don't know any of them but I think if somebody is at the right stage then the Carling Cup should be used. Also training with the first team would probably help too.

What happened Ostenmayer (spelling?) the full back who looked fairly good and went to Bolton (I think) on loan?

Isn't he the one that got shot?

Haven't heard anything about him since then.

One year on, same question.

Personally I still think Anderson could cut it, and should definately be given a chance if we don't sign anyone else on the right. El Zhar looked good for the reserves last season, but when given his chance didn't really shine in the first team. I haven't caught much of him, but apparently Adam Hammill had a blinder in the SPL, might be worth a shot? Apart from that I can't think of any that could make the step up.

This time round I really would like us to take a leaf out of Arsenals book & give these kids a shot in the Carling Cup. I think last season Peltier & Guthrie were the only ones given a shot. We have invested a lot into youth now, and we should start seeing some results from it, but how will we ever know if they're not given the chance?

i think anderson and hammill have a chance, more so hammill because he seems more built and has had a whole season in the SPL under his belt.

Astrit Ajdarevic - I think this lad is gonna be a player. Nice touch, good passer, sweet left foot, has got some vision, likes a tackle (a bit too much) and he's the spit of Paddy Burger. Is physically developed for a lad of just 17 (i think) so he might get a run out in the League Cup this year. Only problem (for him) is that he plays centre-mid.

I have to admit I've been very impressed with what I've seen of him. I thought he was only 16 though? Probably still a bit too young to break through yet, but in a couple of years we could have one hell of a player on our hands.
