Arbeloa could do a job there too i guess so not like we absolutely need 4 top CBs ... remember we only have one recognised first team RB and one Striker....

have you been drinking?  :D

I'm not at all convinced with skrtl either (yet?), but i can't see rafa selling a mostly-succesful player like skrtl

yep... :D

I meant sell Skrtel and keep Agger as backup...

fcking hell Skrtel is overrated and theres so many better CBs out there who would do just as good a job ...

Mexes is a top defender in my books and ive seen quite a bit of him with Roma and he's always been impressive when I have seen him...
Theres others out there who arent big names .. the likes of Barzagli, Jagielka, Lescott, Upson...etc

Agger is ten times the defender Mexes is - whenever i have seen mexes face any opponents of worth he has looked lost , beaten in the air , beaten for pace and weak in the tackle.

Not keen on Mexes meself, was a promising young player at Auxerre but looks out of his depth when i have seen him last couple of seasons at Roma.

But agree that Skyrtl is not good enough and is an accident waiting to happen.
He isnt really quick, is not great in the air gets caught ball watching and dives in too often.

He can do a job but should not be first choice at Liverpool at all.

Steal 2 players from Chelsea.  (One saying he will sign if guaranteed start, other wants to start or will leave.  Cant possible keep them both!)

Zhirkov and Carvalho.  Steal em both.

Backline includes all 4 spots right?

If it was purely a thread for the CB position, it shouldn't be called Our backline! :D

I agree on a punt on Carvalho but he'd probably cost a bomb. Deffo worth enquiring about tho

I think if we could get a rightback that can also play CB like Ramos or Richards I'd be very happy with our entire backline.

Zhirkov would be very good, particularly if we sold Dossena and Babel. I was really impressed when Aurelio was in CM so having Zhirkov along with Insua gives us more flexibility to test Aurelio as a CM.

Otherwise a CB like Wheater who is big young a raw. I just don't see the point in :censored: off Agger and Skrtel and buy a guy like Abiol. We don't have a problem at CB.

Liverpool have offered £2million to Portsmouth for Sylvain Distin in an attempt to replace Sami Hyypia, who has left for Bayer Leverkusen after ten years at the club. The 31-year-old defender has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park, after joining from Manchester City two years ago.

That's a good shout mate. Just about everyone on this board wanted Richards a year ago but now, it seems he is off the menu. Perfect time to move for him since he has had a rocky season. My mate is a season ticket holder at Eastlands and he feels that Richards has spent too much time in the weights room and has subsequently lost some agility and mobilty. Easy to rectify this and imagine what sort of a player he could become with the worlds' best defensive coach working with him? Still not sure if they would sell but I reckon a player who was being touted at £25-30 million 18 months ago could be got for 12-15 now + I don't think Hughes is that big a fan of the player. That would be a steal in my book. This kid can play, he's just gone off the rails a little bit.

Distin is a good player and at that price he would make a lot of sense. If it happened I would not be surprised to see him usurp Skrtel in the pecking order.

I'd take Distin as backup.

I think Rafa would be ill-advised to prioritise a new CB, we have three which maybe is one short, but Sami only played a dozen or so Premiership games last season and other positions are more pressingly in need of attention.

While we did concede a few sloppy goals and indeed conceded four to Arsenal (and Chelsea), our defence was still pretty solid. Reina was close on winning another "golden glove", and as I indicated the other day in another thread, our title challenge was derailed by a spell of P12 W5 D7 L0 F21 A9 PTS 22 smack in the middle of the season - the draws were three 0-0 and three 1-1 so scoring more of a problem than defending.

We need a back-up striker, someone to play LWF and preferably also able to play CF, and a RB. Then we can worry about another CB, perhaps a younger CB since we have three to choose from. If our spending on Agger and Skrtel is anything to go by then we'd spend £6m on a new one, do we have £6m to spare given other areas need attending?
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
