Og verdict overruled - now credited to crouchy - Official word from dubious goals panel

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

So now that's 4 for the season. Bargain!

Really pleased for the guy now - he's worked his socks off, and I just hope he goes on and gets a hatful before the season's out. He'll always have his critics, but what he's brought to the team has been invaluable.  :buttrock

couldnt be happier for crouchy. i have to say tho what a shocker of a decision.loving it. i noticed joe cole's goal has been taken away from him you just gotta love that. his shot hardly touched the defender and crouchys was a beauty. i just love it when chelski dont get there way it is also class that essian got banned but that is another thread i am sure. well played the goals panel and well done crouch. keep up the good work.

Really Johnny ?  Why ?

I thought it took a bad deflection and the keeper palmed it in.,but it was going to hit the target before it deflected and it was dropping in before the keeper touched it as well.

The club credited him the goal, so he had 4 goals but it's good that he now has 2 goals in the Premiership rather than 1.

It was always a goal.Any other decision would have been a joke. The deflection doesnt count as it was goalbound anyway. The goalkeepers fluff doesnt count for the same reason.

Keeping all this posts saved in a database is meant to remember things like

Bigmick wrote

In my book, an own goal is only so if the deliberate intervention of a defender or keeper has made the ball go in when it would otherwise have missed. Crouch's shot was clearly on target before it struck the defender so no problem there (and in any case, the defender didn't deliberately change the trajectory of the ball) and would obviously have gone in the goal unaided by the keeper.
That the goalkeeper was laughably incompetent is not in question. Just because he flapped at it though doesn't make it an own goal. Incompetence does not make an own goal, if it did then Diego Forlorn scored two less than he thinks he did for Manure because Dudek gifted him at least two against us.
Accidental and inadvertant deflections do not make own-goals. Nor do incompetent goalkeepers. If the ball had looped up and was going over the bar before the keeper fumbled it, then it's an own goal. As it is, it's Crouchino's.

I think no further explanation is needed. Somebody should just apologise to Crouch and tell us what the hell were they thinking when they removed the goal to Crouch.

Finally a panel of "experts" get something right.

Well done Crouch. Keep it up, lad.
