It seems that whatever his football ability, we are picking up a player who is keen to do the right thing on the pitch, and whose application and team ethic is beyond question.

If we compare the acquisition with the last couple of times we paid huge money for strikers the starkness of the contrast couldn't be more pronounced. We paid 10 mill' for Diouff, seemingly on a whim and a prayer. An untried and unproven maverick of a footballer who disappointed almost from day one, his lack of potential as an out and out front man was matched only by the disgusting way in which he conducted himself in a red shirt.
He was followed by the hapless Cisse. This time there had been more research and we were assured that we were buying a real gem. There were flashes of individual brilliance from the Frenchman, glimpses of lung bursting searing pace but precious little in terms of team play, of game appreciation. Selfishness and petulant sulking came in equal measure every game and it was hard to escape the notion that nobody had bothered their erse to ask about the quality of the man not the footballer. Was he one you'd want on your side in the trenches, one to take up the mantle for his teammates in a battle?

Nothing in life is certain and even less in football. Nobody can guarantee that the new man will be value for money, a prolific goalscorer or become a legend in the red shirt. I quite like the fact though that at least we are buying somebody who comes with a character reference. We can at last be certain that he will he will contribute to the team ethic with his work and application, that ultimately he will try his best. Of this it seems we can be certain, and in that and our managers judgement I am happy.

Couldn't agree more mick.....

Which is why I still have serious doubts bout Bellamy and Pennant.... I'm just praying the bubble doesn't pop and the beasts within these 2 don't come out and smear the red shirts with tar....

Of course I trust in Rafa and I'll support them until proven wrong but me gut's telling me otherwise....

I like Kuyt.  He lacks pace but is a very good player.  Not as good as Huntelaar.  However Huntelaar is something special.  He will stay at Ajax for at least another 2 seasons and then go for big big money!!!

Agreed mick

He has also shown alot of passion for Liverpool, He snubbed every other offer just to play Liverpool. Shows that he has a really good character. He is mentally strong and don't get me wrong he did show glimpses of team work in the WC, for example he did give neat passes and crosses. Although he did not impress technically, he can still show us that he has what it takes to be a great striker. He offers us more energy in our attack and would be very useful when he has a good striker next to him.

I will judge him at the end of 2006/2007 season.

Good point, but in comparison, so did Van Horseface and Kuyt has a similar record to the horse during 3 years at Feyonoord.  Look what he did in the Prem.

Its good to keep perspective, but brandishing 2 failures and ignoring a huge success is not doing that....

For me, the key about a player like Kuyt is service, the horse thrived on the service he recieved when he arrived in the Prem, and from the look of our current squad, there is every reason to think that Kuyt will get great service too.

Oh what a Kuyt
Late December we'll have won the league
What a very special time for me
As I remember what a Kuyt

Oh what a Kuyt,
Ugly ba$tard and his socks are white,
But he scores goals and he likes a pint,
The Red Hot Dutchman, what a Kuyt.

Feynoord really are screwed.  They have lost Kalou and Kuyt.

I had a chat with a youth coach I know (he is Dutch and apparently he played for Ajax in years back) and he was completley impressed with kuyt (he told me it is pronounced KOWT by the way). This man being a coach was judging him from a coaches perspective and he seemed to think Kuyt is a real coach's player. Works hard for the team, very intelligent and gives 100% every game (actually seems like a Raffa type player).

I followed his WC exploits and I was not overly impressed and yesterday he did not really make an impression but that could be due to trying too hard to impress, as it must be a tense time now for him due to his iminent transfer.

I trust Raffa's opinion and have no doubt he will be an impact player.

He's been a long time target of Rafa's and we've finally got him.

Welcome to Anfield, Dirk!

30 goals this season in the bag, right?  :D

By the way Barry, I think the number of goals you posted was actually the number of games he played or else that's just crazy!  :wwww
