I hope the owners manage to refinance, there is no guarantee that whoever buys us will do any better. We still managed to get in second in spite of them pesky owners and dished out new contracts to key players and kuyt  :D   even rafa got one ffs

I think now, after five years I finally understand you peewee.

You want to be the advocate of the devil, you like to be the one who gets al lthe attention and you do this by posting ludicrous statements and then sticking by them.

Do you work for Talksport of a weekend mate ?

RAFA BENITEZ WIELDS AXE

Liverpool boss dumps SIXTEEN backroom staff

RAFA BENITEZ - ruthless
By CHRIS BASCOMBE, 06/06/2009

LIVERPOOL are facing a legal backlash after dismissing an incredible SIXTEEN backroom staff as part of the increasingly bloody Anfield Rafalution.

The club sacked 10 Academy staff last week and another six long-serving employees left in the last few days.

Distressed former employees with well over 150 years service between them argue they've been given no valid reason for the termination of contracts and are unhappy with the club's first offers for pay-off packages.

Liverpool are now braced for a series of courtroom challenges to the decision, with most of those sacked preparing unfair dismissal claims.

The Merseyside club face massive compensation bills and that's come at the worst possible time for owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett given their perilous financial situation.

Liverpool argue most of the dismissals are a series of cost-cutting measures overseen by new finance director Philip Nash, particularly at Academy level, with the club trying to reduce staff expenses by up to as much as £2million a year.

Benitez plans to replace some of them by adding to the Spanish contingent at Anfield.

A Kop source said: "You've heard of the night of the long knives. This is more like two weeks of it and it may not be finished yet.

"Rafa wants a clean sweep, but some of the staff won't go quietly and are taking legal advice. Some of them don't even feel they've been told why they're going."

The first round of departures included reserve coach Gary Ablett, Academy director Piet Hamberg and youth coaches Dave Shannon and Hugh McAuley.

Shannon will have a strong claim against the club having been cited in the recent autobiographies of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher as a major influence on their careers through the youth ranks.

In recent days the departure of six Melwood staff has been confirmed, including physio Victor Salinas, the club's players' liaison officer who has been at Liverpool for 14 years, and even the kit man.

-----------------------------

This article is by Bascombe, a man renound for talking total rubbish since he sold his sould and went to work for the Sunday Sun.

It fails to mention that a number of those replaced where Spanish.

It gleefully tags onto the "spanish contingent" line that the press use. Should we mention Alonso and Torres ? part of said spanish contingent - so I am happy if we get more like minded people in.

I preffer to be prudent about this because I don't know what's going on inside the club. It's never good news this because we're talking about 16 red men unemployed. But if the reason of it is that the results of the academy are not good enough, then I could understand that measure as much as it's hard.

Is Rafa going to replace a few of these with some of his own choices? At the end of the day he is in charge and wants to make sure the academy starts producing. If this is needed then so be it.

Ah fck off Barry... Ofcourse they'r going to say they got sacked because the club is trying to lower the costs... but we all know that sooner or later we'll be signing some replacements and guess what.. Rafa will be the one picking them... Dont think the two Yanks are THAAT involved in the footballing matters in the club, deciding on who to sack from our youth academy and who to keep ...
All comes down to Rafa whether u admit it or not... wants things done his way and fair enough... not like i give  a fck or two about who the youth academy head coach is or anythin but lets not get all silly about pretty much everything here blaming the yanks for everything...

Lets not forget the fat wages our very own manager gets here... my point was and still is... that people like Shannon helped the club bring through some of our best local young talent in recent times, should have kept him if only for his experience...

experience of NOT bringing enough talent through?  ???

sounds to me like the system has been failing for the last 10 years and someone has instigated a revolution

Who the :censored: cares if it was the owner or rafa?  They aren't producing, so like any business you get people that can.  Probably should of kept the 10+ year people, but as much as we love the team you can't forget theres also a business side to it.

List of the people sacked. I can't see what the kit man (for example) has to do with our failure to develop young talent, not unless he has been putting too much starch in their jock straps anyway.

Seems they are after saving up to £2million a year, a simpler way might have been to just get rid of Degan instead.
