Next season's ideal eleven - What would be your realistic 11?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Yes, that is Gareth Barry at left back. He's not a true central mid as most people like to think.

And yes, you could ask the question of anyone's team, but this team I selected is realistic (perhaps Quaresma is dreaming a little) but we do need a partner for Torres regardless of what these so called articles say. We need depth in an event of any injury.

Gareth Barry plays his best football in the centre at Villa (having said that I've never seen him at left back but general consensus with the Villa fans I know is that he's best in the middle.) Personally I wouldn't want us spending £10m on a midfielder to play at left-back but I do agree that we need new full-backs.

I'm in two minds regarding whether Torres needs a partner, I think we definately need a striker in case of an injury to him but whether he's best as a lone striker at liverpool remains to be seen. Im dreaming of Rafa snatching Villa from cash-strapped Valencia! :p

I think that Torres plays best as a lone striker, he couldn't even play well with Villa for Spain.  That's why more quality on the wings is a huge priority in the summer.  He could score 40+goals a season if we had at least one high quality player on the wings.

Has anyone been watching Benfica?  They have a very talented winger Coentrao.  I was very impressed with him during last year's under 20 world cup, but I haven't seen many Benfica matches this yr.  I think he'd be a wonderful buy and he wouldn't be too expansive.

Here's some highlights from one match.

This kid can become a terrific player.

No good. We need a partner for Torres, or at least one that can come from the bench. What happens if either Torres or Gerrard gets injured with that set up?

Here's mine:

                     Reina

Rafinha Carragher Agger Barry

            Mascherano

               Gerrard
  Pennant(?)                  Quaresma

           Martins (Marcelo Moreno)

                     Torres

The topic is about best 11 - you could ask your question about
anybody's best 11.

Ive read a few articles about Torres, saying you get the best out of him
when he doesn't have to partner someone up front.
Debateable like, but since we went 4-2-3-1 we've been playing our best
and most consistent football this season.

Just one question - is that Gareth Barry you have at left back?

Yes, that is Gareth Barry at left back. He's not a true central mid as most people like to think.

:D

Sorry Red, but you have a go at my "set up" ( which we've been playing since Feb) and then stick Barry at left back.

fernandez is a player that rafa reportedly has wanted since last year, he has had scouted since january
a genius little attacking mid, very devastating look at this :-

also it has been said that aguero wants to leave spain for a big four club cause he is sick to death of the biased spanish league with madrid and valencia etc etc

We signed babel and he's a young lad and people want to give him time. Id rather we signed someone who we know can compete rather than going down the road of players being young and needing time. I know he's a hot prospect and wouldnt mind us signing him but he's not a complete player yet. Just saying I would rather we signed an accomplished winger with experience.

I know Barry's been playing in the center at Villa, but his natural starting position is a full back. He's a very versatile player, though. Hence how people are regarding him as a central-mid. I think if we bought him, we'll be seeing him playing in various roles, but mainly at left back, or left mid ala Riise.

We do need full backs in reference to your last post, though.  :D

I believe we need that area improved on more than any on the pitch. If we bag two quality full backs that can bomb up and down to support our front lines, and bag a quality right winger (haven't had one since McMannaman) then we'd be on course to becoming a dominant force.

im soz greavsie but the likeliness of us signing rafinha, bentley, silva and abidal or lahm is like zero, zilch, zippo no existent
but hey we can all dream!
and bentley is overated just like mr wonder boy lampard, they say lampard cant play with gerrard, simple equation tell lamp to sod off :P...............BENCHED HORRIBLEY
and to sign a accomplished winger, that is n e good would cost an arm and a leg for the left examples:-
vicente, silva, j.cole, schweinstieger, etc etc
so you see the old adage, buy young and talented, get a decent right winger and play babel lwf and we have a probable line up then when this kid matias fernandez, who has been dubbed the new kaka
that should do, we need a left back and right winger more in my eyes!!

we've been stronly linked to Rafinha and Bentley, Valencia are cash strapped so I wouldn't bet against us not signing at least one of their players in the summer (Silva), Abidal and Lahm are two left backs I wouldn't mind seeing either at the club imo (they are a long shot :D)

We need full backs for sure, wonder if Rafa will renew his interest in Alves in the summer? ???
